Job TitleCardiothoracic Registrar Accountable Consultant Surgeons Hours39 hours per week ROLE PURPOSE The post holder will work under the supervision of the Consultants to deliver a quality service. The person will lead manage the team of medical staff in the Cardiac Surgical programme. Personally and professionally you are accountable to the Patient. You are personally accountable for your own actions at all times. The post holder, as an employee, must adhere to Blackrock Clinic protocols and procedures. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Main activities The post holder will support the Consultant Cardiothoracic surgeons at Blackrock Clinic Independent activity will include dealing with returns to theatre for bleeding or rewiring, tracheostomy and other such procedures. Organise and guide the registrars to progress their skill. Manage the duty rota for registrars and on call allocation. Monitor overtime and ensure the Rota reflects activity. Lead the ward rounds in the Intensive Care Unit and Cardiac Surgical unit and provide direction to the multi disciplinary team. Work in a flexible manner which supports the cardiac surgical plan for the week, bearing in mind that activity can change at short notice and emergencies can supersede the plan. Provide a second on call with the most junior registrar which can be agreed with the Consultant Surgeons. Ensure the team maintenanceaccurate records in line with best clinical governance. Document all assessments, diagnoses, treatments, clinical notes, relevant contacts and summaries in accordance with hospital and professional standards, Participate in relevant meetings, case conferences, research and audit. Contribute to the development and implementation of procedures, policies protocols and guidelines. Maintain professional standards in relation to confidentiality, ethics and legislation Communicate appropriately with colleagues and other members of the health care team. Health and Safety Comply with Health and Safety policies and procedures which includes ensuring equipment used on the service is maintained to the required standard and defects are reported to the appropriate authorities as soon as possible. Implement agreed policies, procedures and safe professional practice. Work in a safe manner with due care and attention to the safety of self and others. Be aware of Risk Management issues, identify risks and take appropriate action. Report any adverse incidents or near misses. Adhere to Infection Prevention and Control policy at the hospital Support the Mission Statement of Blackrock Clinic. Participate in working groups to develop and promote quality service within Blackrock Clinic. Qualifications Medical degree, MBBS or equivalent.
