Role Overview

 

Under the direction of the Operations Manager, the Logistics Supervisor is responsible for the management of the logistics function onsite. This hands-on supervisory role drives productivity, efficiency and compliance and facilitates high motivation and engagement within the logistics team. A continuous improvement mindset for the enhancement of supply chain business process is a key element of this role also.


Here are some of the key responsibilities:

 

  • Manage the onsite logistics team of 3 people to ensure an effective and compliant shipping operation.
  • Ensure outgoing shipments are coordinated accurately to customer sites and other distribution centres to meet deadlines both domestically and internationally.
  • Act as a point of escalation for all shipping related issues.
  • Identify areas of opportunity with new processes and technologies and complete continuous improvement initiatives throughout the logistics function.
  • Interact closely with corporate supply chain and customer services to ensure capability in meeting customer needs.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day management of carriers and freight forwarders, supervising performance, driving improvements and building the relationship to ensure that service levels are clear and delivered.
  • Help in the identification of alternate routes or modes of transportation to manage flexibility and ensure a proper service is provided to customers.
  • Ensure all internal & external compliance responsibilities relating to freight, customs and costs are met.
  • Support the implementation of strategic projects to manage any freight constraints.
  • Manage, coach and develop a high performing team that meets agreed objectives and delivers best practice results, added value and continuous improvements.
  • Set departmental objectives/KPIs and review and assess ongoing performance of direct reports.
  • Ensure all team members are fully trained to carry out their duties to the required standards and maintain up to date training records.
  • Work with the site management team and other supply chain stakeholders to craft and develop the future state warehouse & logistics model for the site.
  • Monitor and update relevant KPI’s via local and corporate dashboards.
Job Requirements

 

The education and experience that is needed for the role:

 

  • Demonstrated strong safety knowledge and attitude to safety of personnel.
  • High level of SAP user competence; 5+ years of subject matter expertise on core logistics movements on SAP or similar ERP system.
  • Third Level qualification in Supervision/Management and/or 5+ years in a relevant logistics leadership role with a proven ability to optimize team performance and development.
  • Highly skilled communicator with the ability to form and maintain good relationships internally and externally.
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated interest in Quality, Compliance and GMP.
  • Strong systems skills and computer literacy.
  • Strong initiative and demonstrated ability to interface effectively with colleagues at all levels of the organization and work cross-culturally.
