Here at Haleon, we are on the lookout for a highly skilled Control Systems Lead to join our dedicated team in Dungarvan. As the Control Systems Lead you will lead a highly talented and motivated automation team providing strategy, prioritisation and direction while ensuring continued automation and digital development throughout the site.

The role is responsible for automation system performance and replacement across the sites (OC and OTC), manufacturing and utility assets. Also working closely with the wider engineering team to reduce losses and ensure efficient operation, leveraging new technologies and digital platforms to drive the business forward.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership in defining and executing the OTC site automation strategy. Formulation and execution of this strategy is absolutely key to the sites success to delivering medicines to our patients.

  • Define and align with the above site Automation team to ensure local activities are strategically aligned with corporate goals by building relationship and leveraging knowledge exchange between sites.

  • Responsible for definition of the site automation obsolescence and upgrades strategies ensuring consistent standards in hardware and software are applied and obsolescence risks are addressed/mitigated

  • Define and execute the continuous investment plan to ensure the site remains current and innovative in both automation and digital technologies to leverage business benefit and avoid significant obsolescence in both skills and technology.

  • Provide shop floor support for problem solving and investigation activities for all automation issues.

  • System Ownership for Serialization and Track and Trace systems.

  • Actively pursue business advantage through the application of digital technologies and apps throughout the site manufacturing function.

  • Lead and initiate continuous improvement programs and projects including the development and optimization of operation and maintenance procedures for automation / control systems.

  • Tender and appoint contractors for the supply of automation services, plant and equipment, installation or Service work for Production operations.

  • Ensure that an out of hours automation support system is in place and support vendors are up to speed on site systems.

  • Attend all area and central maintenance reviews. Take an active part in agreeing improvement actions and complete those assigned to the Engineer. Through regular meetings with the other Engineers, promote good practice across the network.

  • Investigate system failures and follow up on Corrective Actions. Trend Bad actors and support investment or upgrades needed. Carry out minor modifications in the area, ensuring that all records are properly updated.

  • Promote trial and testing of new developments in technology to ensure effective life cycle costing and improvements

  • Stay current on developments in the field of instrumentation, control technology, digital opportunities and HALEON Standards.

  • Be the site champion Automation and Digital Strategies leveraging best practices and piloting new technologies.

This successful candidate must be a champion for innovation and also blue sky thinking.

This is a key site technical and strategic role within the site. The Automation lead looks forward and implements improvements both on the equipment and also by data analytics of trends of performance, costs and uptime. While providing day to day technical support this role is very strategic looking at external benchmarking of KPIs and seeing how to drive these improvements within the site.

Essential Qualifications & Skills we are looking for:

A key element of this role is looking at new technologies and adopting digital solutions to help maximise the equipment performance. Working closely with the Asset Care and projects teams is vital.

  • Have attained a Honors Degree Qualified with 5 years experience in a regulated industry

  • Strong Problem Solving skills

  • Innovation through looking at movements in industry on equipment performance and also modifications. Looking both internal and external to Haleon for the best solutions to ensure maximise return for any upgrades/investments needed.

  • Excellent influencing and negotiation skills.

  • Strong business acumen to review and identify improved ways of working to maximize growth opportunities and maximize productivity.

  • Strategic thinker looking for ways to maximise system efficiency and remove complexity to simplify the maintenance system.

  • Good interpersonal and leadership skills to influence team members.
