Organisation overview
Self Help Africa (SHA) and United Purpose (UP) merged in late 2021 to implement projects to end extreme hunger and poverty in sub-Saharan Africa. The merger doubled its size and reach, with SHA implementing poverty eradication projects in sub-Saharan Africa in 2022. The group includes social enterprise subsidiaries Partner Africa, TruTrade and Cumo Microfinance. In 2022, SHA reached over twelve million people and invested €46m in over 80 development programmes to improve food systems, facilitate access to markets and financial services, combat climate change, gender inequality, and improve access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene.
Job Purpose
- Provide primary healthcare and treatment services to Rohingya refugees in the camp.
- Be based full-time at the assigned camp location to ensure continuous service delivery.
- Coordinate and communicate effectively with Camp-in-Charge (CiC), camp management authorities, and relevant government officials.
- Collaborate with health sector partners, NGOs, and other stakeholders for integrated health responses.
- Participate actively in camp management coordination meetings and health cluster sessions.
- Manage the overall operations of the health post, ensuring availability of medical supplies and functionality of the facility.
- Supervise and support health post team members including nurses, paramedics, and support staff.
- Lead the selection and registration of health beneficiaries based on set criteria.
- Conduct regular monitoring and routine checks of service delivery and camp health trends.
- Prepare timely and accurate progress reports and health data summaries.
- Ensure compliance with clinical protocols and humanitarian health standards.
- Promote community awareness on health and hygiene practices in coordination with community health workers.
Key Relationships:
Internal: Project Manager, Project Management Team, Health Post Team, Finance Team, Country Office, Procurement Team.
External: CiC (Camp-in-Charge) & ACiC (Assistant Camp-in-Charge), RRRC (Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner), UNO (Upazila Nirbahi Officer), Site Management and Site Development Authority (SMSD), ISCG (Inter-Sector Coordination Group), Mazhi (Community Leaders/ Representatives), Health Sector Partners, Camp Security Authority.
Knowledge, Experience and Other Requirements:
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree in medicine (MBBS) from a recognised medical institution.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of clinical experience, preferably in humanitarian or refugee camp settings.
- Prior experience in public health, camp-based healthcare, or working with displaced populations is an asset.
Language Requirements:
• Fluency in Bengali and good command in English & Rohingya/Chittagonian dialects.
Job Requirements
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to work under pressure in challenging environments.
- Proficient in preparing medical reports and documentation.
- This is a field-based position stationed within the Rohingya refugee camp area.
- The Medical Officer will work in a humanitarian context and must be committed to principles of humanitarian action and cultural sensitivity.
