Position: Manufacturing Supervisor
Location: Ballina, Co. Mayo
The Manufacturing Supervisor plays a pivotal role in driving manufacturing excellence on the shop floor. This position involves coaching and developing Manufacturing Team Leaders and Associates to achieve improved outcomes in key areas such as Production, Safety, Quality, Service, and Cost, all aligned with Hollister’s Mission and Vision. Additionally, this role is responsible for implementing policies, corrective actions, supporting new product commercialization, and fostering team growth within a collaborative environment.
The Manufacturing Supervisor will be accountable for the successful implementation of the Hollister Production System and driving improvements in critical Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) by addressing systemic issues within assigned cells.
Responsibilities
Employee Relations:
- Lead teams to help Manufacturing Team Leaders, Engineers, and Associates meet or exceed goals in safety, quality, service, and cost in a culture of continuous improvement.
- Conduct associate performance reviews, provide constructive feedback and resolve conflicts.
- Model and promote Hollister's Cultural Beliefs, ensuring company policies are applied consistently.
- Ensure Associates follow development plans and complete required training.
Engagement:
- Foster an environment that supports the development of Associates into leadership roles, both through Manufacturing Team Leaders and direct coaching.
- Monitor performance metrics and address any shortfalls in team or individual achievements.
- Recognize and reward achievements using approved programs.
- Ensure smooth coordination and cooperation across shifts.
- Confirm process standards within assigned cells.
Production Oversight:
- Design and implement systems to meet targets for Safety, Quality, Service, and Cost.
- Address systemic issues impacting performance and prioritize improvement projects to enhance cell performance.
- Track and analyze monthly plans versus actual performance for assigned cells, reporting on KPIs and quality issues to the Manufacturing Manager.
- Conduct internal audits of HPS and compliance standards, reporting findings as appropriate.
- Attend Tier-2 board meetings and provide detailed reports on assigned cell performance.
- Collaborate with Quality, Projects, and Supply Chain teams to identify and address root causes of issues.
- Participate in MRB (Material Review Board) meetings and ensure a safe working environment.
- Monitor safety conditions and conduct accident investigations with root cause analysis.
- Report on Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), addressing performance gaps with the Value Stream Engineers and Maintenance Team Lead.
- Assist in improving OEE by reviewing machine performance and approving production rate goals.
- Track hourly, daily, and weekly performance across shifts, addressing efficiency and scrap issues as necessary.
- Lead efforts to address quality issues through corrective and preventative actions.
- Ensure delivery schedules align with customer priorities by analyzing machine capacity and staffing requirements.
- Implement the Hollister Production System (HPS) to drive performance improvements and resolve systemic issues.
Staffing and Resource Planning:
- Approve training plans for new Associates (Team Leads and Operators).
- Participate in the interview process for operator positions, as needed.
- Manage staffing levels to meet operational needs.
- Identify skill requirements for each team and provide feedback to the Manufacturing Manager.
- Interview and select candidates for key positions.
Project Management:
- Work with the Manufacturing Manager and Project Process Engineers to support new machine installations, workspace layouts, and tool/equipment readiness.
- Collaborate with the Maintenance Team Lead to ensure timely completion of scheduled maintenance tasks.
- Lead HPS assessments and ensure consistent implementation across dedicated cells.
- Lead or support team projects, champion Kaizen events, and implement cost-saving initiatives.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Planning teams to support New Product Commercialization projects, including staffing, skills, cost analysis, and project details (e.g., scrap rates, bill of materials, packing methods).
Experience and Education
- 5-8 years of overall experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- A Bachelor’s degree (preferably in engineering, manufacturing, or a related field) or 5 years in a leadership role with plans to pursue a Bachelor’s degree.
- Experience in cleanroom environments is preferred (if applicable).
- Proven track record in a lean manufacturing environment, with solid knowledge of job responsibilities.
Technical Knowledge
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
- Strong communication skills (both oral and written).
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain trust within a team.
- Experience in critical thinking and problem-solving techniques (e.g., 5Y, A3).
- Knowledge of Lean (e.g., 5S) and Six Sigma methodologies is preferred.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and shop floor data acquisition systems is advantageous.
- Medical Device or FDA-related manufacturing experience is preferred.
- Ability to drive process improvements, lead teams, and teach others effectively.
