Quality Assurance Technician at Amazon would test products at user level; primarily they would involve in manual testing and also execution and maintenance of automation script. QATs would use black box testing techniques to break code and drive customer satisfaction. QATs at Amazon are excellent individual contributors capable of understanding and executing test cases, driving test execution with minimal help. QATs would be trying to understand feature to great depth which would enable them to report issues and take ownership and drive them to closure. QATs are highly accurate in reporting the software behavior ensuring that there is no ambiguity while reproducing issues. High quality and accuracy is maintained throughout the software release without compromising on deadlines.


Key job responsibilities

  1. You write and execute a set of test cases assigned to you by an SDET/QAE/your manager. You write and maintain black box test cases with some guidance.
  2. You can drill down on ambiguous tasks requests (new features/use cases) into clear work instructions through first pass execution or training from QA, which in turn helps team to start testing without any hiccups.
  3. You can install and configure software, can use debug settings. You have technical ability to gather logs, traces to add to bug reports when provided detailed instructions.
  4. You can give feedback on automation needs to your team/QA team for the components owned, execute and verify results of existing automated tests, manage and scale the lab infrastructure based on project needs.
  5. You have basic understanding of the automation framework to initiate, manage and maintain automation runs as per defined schedule/SLA.
  6. You reproduce errant product behavior to assist developers or other testers and identify, track, and accurately report defects found. Good reproducible defect reports include; steps to repro, logs, clear description of actual results vs. expected, helpful title/summary. You verify fixed bugs are truly fixed.
  7. You perform defect analysis and help prioritize and escalate issues in areas within your scope. Give feedback on coverage, quality of test instructions and act as a catalyst to process sustenance.
  8. You analyze automation failures and report issues by isolating script/product failures.
  9. You come up with initiatives which include developing simple tools/utilities that help the project key metrics like productivity, defect leakage and quality in test areas owned. You help in improving the stakeholder communication processes.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. BE Computer Science, BTech, Master of Computer Applications (MCA), MSc Information Technology (IT) with relevant experience in Software testing, 2 to 3 years of industry experience.
  2. Well versed in SDLC and has hands on experience on STLC.
  3. Have fair scripting knowledge using Python and Java, able to own, execute and verify results of existing automated tests, manage and scale the lab infrastructure based on project needs.
  4. Have basic understanding of the automation framework to initiate, manage and maintain automation runs as per defined schedule/SLA.
