Child Protection Expert – DRC-UNHCR Roving Deployment Scheme

The DRC Standby Roster is looking for a skilled Child Protection Expert with UNHCR experience and French/English language skills to be part of a new roving deployment scheme in partnership with UNHCR.

Last year DRC entered a new deployment partnership to support UNHCR by deploying Child Protection Experts to selected operations. The Child Protection Expert will be deployed on a roving basis to UNHCR operations, primarily in emergencies, but also in complex protracted situations, for periods of two to three months on average. Between deployments, the Child Protection Expert will undertake remote work for UNHCR operations. They will be expected to undertake various tasks and duties based on operational needs in the following areas:

  • Needs Identification, Strategy and Advocacy
  • Programme planning and implementation
  • Partnership and coordination
  • Innovation, knowledge management and capacity building

The Expert will be a member of the Protection team and may have direct supervisory responsibility for child protection staff.

Profile and qualifications

For this new deployment scheme, we are looking for a qualified candidate with extensive experience in the humanitarian field and who meets the following requirements:

  • Relevant educational background and previous UNHCR work experience.
  • A minimum of 4 years specific experience with Child Protection in humanitarian emergencies.
  • Proficiency in English as well as in French (essential).
  • Proficiency in Spanish (desirable)
  • Knowledge and understanding of the complexities involved in refugee and IDP responses.

Application process

All applicants must upload a cover letter (1 page maximum) and an updated P11 form via the DRC online application system. Please also upload performance evaluation reports, if applicable. To apply, please click on the "Apply for position" button at the bottom of this advertisement. We will only accept applications submitted in English and received via our online platform.

We will be receiving and screening applications on a rolling basis until 27 March 2025.

Screening and selection process

Applications will be screened on an ongoing basis, and we may therefore contact relevant applicants prior to the application deadline. Long-listed candidates will be screened by UNHCR and if approved, will be asked to complete an online written test and to submit contact details for two references. If the test result is satisfactory, the candidate may be invited for an interview on Teams. The final selection will be done jointly by DRC and UNHCR. We expect the selection process and deployment of the Child Protection Expert to be concluded quickly.

If you have questions about the DRC-UNHCR roving deployment scheme or are facing issues with the application system, please contact Pia Terslev Johansen at sbr@drc.ngo. Applications sent directly to this email address will not be considered.

We foster an inclusive and diverse pool of experts and encourage all qualified applicants to apply.
