Job Description:Working as a Consultant Adult Psychiatrist in Old Age Psychiatry, you will be responsible for the care and treatment of patients in your clinical charge, with the service to be as community-oriented as possible.
Duration: 12-24 month contract with a view to go permanent.
The main responsibilities of this role are to provide high-quality mental health care for older people with severe and enduring mental health problems, both inpatient and outpatient, dealing with needs such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and Huntington’s Diseases, as well as individuals with early onset dementias, schizophrenia, and mood disorders.
As a Consultant psychiatrist, you will work closely with other teams and Consultants to ensure coherent and high-quality mental health care for older people with severe and enduring mental health problems within the Cork/Kerry area. As a leader, you will have a key role in teaching, managing, coaching, and engaging in the practice and education of medical students, medical staff, and other allied health professionals as appropriate.
The Psychiatry of Later Life Team provides specialist mental health services to people over sixty-five who are coming to the service for the first time.

- Basic Salary: Scale between €224,437 - €269,594 in accordance with the HSE 2023 Consultant contract.

- Additional remuneration for on-call duties and overtime as applicable.

- Up to €12,000 CME and €8,000 research grant.
- 30 days annual leave.

- Hours: 37 hours per week, plus on-call supplements.
- Specialist Registration with the Irish Medical Council or eligibility for Specialist Registration.
- UK and EEA candidates with Specialist Registration in Psychiatry can apply.
- 5 - 10 years' relevant experience post-graduation.
- Possesses a detailed knowledge and understanding of the relevant specialist domain: Old Age Psychiatry.
