Focus Ireland are recruiting Relief Social Care Workers to support our services in South Dublin. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a leading organisation in the field of social care, allowing you to work in a range of services and develop your professional practice to an exceptional standard.
The services provide long-term accommodation to young people, aged 15-17.
Flexible working hours are on offer to suit your availability. You may be called for a shift at any stage; however, you are under no obligation to accept the shift. You are paid for the hours which you work. Sleepovers and day shifts are available.
Primary Purpose: To work as part of Focus Ireland’s residential children’s service, providing care, protection, and support to vulnerable or dependent young people, individually or in groups, in conjunction with the wider multidisciplinary team and other relevant agencies. The primary aim is to provide interventions necessary to address the young person’s issues and the issues preventing them from living at home, offering a therapeutic care placement to young people who often present with emotional or behavioural difficulties.
What you will do:
- Work within the framework of the overall objective of Focus Ireland and its values.
- Work on a relief basis as part of a team within the policies and procedures in place for the project or as directed by the project leader, assistant project leader, or section manager.
- Participate in the development and implementation of care and placement plans.
- Support young people that have experienced trauma and present with challenging behaviour.
- Refer and support young people to external agencies that may assist them with personal, social, educational, employment, legal, and accommodation needs.
- Promote the participation of young people in decision-making on issues affecting their lives.
- Promote the rights and responsibilities of each young person within the service.
- Liaise with parents, family, general services, and other agencies on behalf of the young person.
- Record and maintain records on a relief basis in relation to the project and individual clients in accordance with statutory requirements and health and safety legislation.
- Attend and participate in team, review, and agency meetings as required.
- Work in close liaison with and cooperate with other Focus Ireland projects.
- Undertake other duties as assigned in consultation with the Manager.
- Observe all Health, Safety, and Welfare at Work regulations and notify management of any risks or concerns.
What you will need:
- A Third Level Degree in Social Care.
- Proven direct work experience in relief/part-time work in a social care setting.
- Experience supporting marginalised clients/groups, preferably adolescents.
- Working knowledge and insight into the social issues affecting young people experiencing homelessness.
- Ability to manage and support clients in crisis who present with challenging behaviours based on best practice values and principles.
- Working knowledge and understanding of Child Protection.
Ideally:
- Working knowledge and understanding of the Therapeutic Crisis Intervention model.
- Working knowledge and understanding of the National Standards for Children’s Residential Centres.
- Some experience of key working, assessments, and care planning.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Reliability and flexibility.
- Excellent report writing and IT skills.
