DESCRIPTION

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Civil Engineer to join the Civil, Structural & Architectural (CSA) Design Team in Dublin, Ireland.

Key job responsibilities
As a Civil Engineer you are responsible for;

  1. Work with the other design and engineering professionals on concepts and build projects.
  2. Create, review and release data center Civil Engineering designs.
  3. Manage the portfolio of data center designs and features.
  4. Development and maintenance of CSA Basis of Design, prototype design, and template specifications for civil engineering systems.
  5. Serve as a technical advisor for AWS DC design projects including; review of civil engineering designs such as roads, drainage, civil site works, bulk earthworks, cut/fill analysis, retaining walls; evaluating civil engineering design options, and assessing civil engineering calculation assumptions.
  6. Evaluate reports and create scope for geotechnical investigation testing.
  7. Create, review and release architectural/civil/structural design RFPs.
  8. Manage our external architectural/civil/structural design consultants.
  9. Coordinate with internal and external MEP design engineers.
  10. Lead initiatives aimed at improving cost, quality, schedule, and consistency.
  11. Work on multiple data center build and capital improvement projects simultaneously.
  12. Travel for site assessments, consultant selection activities, internal design meetings, construction review, interface with AHJs, design consultants, quantity surveyors, and building owners.
  13. Anticipated travel not to exceed 25%.
  14. Demonstrated ability to evaluate the constructability of new technologies, and determine construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.
  15. Perform and present business case analysis.
  16. Solid working proficiency with civil 3D, AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, and MS Office Suite.

A day in the life
As a Data Centre (DC) Civil Engineer at AWS, you will lead designs for AWS DCs in our Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) geography and impact other projects around the world. As a DC Civil Engineer, you will be part of a highly creative and efficient design team comprised of Architects, Engineers, and Designers tasked with solving problems and challenging the status quo. As a subject matter expert, you will have a direct impact on the design of prototypical DC facilities, provide technical guidance, solve large scale implementation issues, and be responsible for Civil Engineering design requirements.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Accredited Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering.
  2. Chartered Engineer in Ireland or equivalent overseas accreditation.
  3. 4-6 years of experience in civil engineering design for industrial, warehouse, or commercial projects.
  4. Detailed understanding of all aspects of civil engineering including but not limited to; roads design, drainage systems, bulk earthworks, retaining walls, slope stability.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Master's degree in civil or structural engineering.
  2. Experience managing a team of civil/structural designers to deliver packages to milestone dates.
  3. Experience across disciplines such as structural, architectural, environmental engineering.
  4. 5+ years of experience directly related to DC or mission critical facility design.
  5. Detailed understanding of building construction, forensic analysis of building design and construction defects, and evaluating value engineering for building superstructure.
  6. Basic understanding of large scale mechanical and electrical system components and designs.
  7. Direct experience with the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of DCs.
