Tallaght University Hospital (TUH) is one of Ireland's largest acute teaching hospitals, providing adult, psychiatric, and age-related healthcare on one site. The Hospital has 450 adult beds with over 3,500 staff and more than 60 different nationalities represented. It is a designated trauma unit incorporating the National Pelvic and Acetabular Unit, a regional Urology Centre, and the second largest provider of renal dialysis services in the country.

As one of the two main academic teaching hospitals of Trinity College Dublin, TUH specializes in the training and professional development of staff in areas such as Medicine, Nursing, and Health and Social Care Professionals. TUH is part of the Dublin Midlands Hospital Group, serving a population of over 1.2 million across seven counties.

The Hospital is an exciting and dynamic place to work, having recently opened a new Renal Dialysis unit, Reeves Day Surgery Centre, a step-down facility in the community, a new ICU, and developed a supraregional Endometriosis Service. Purpose of the Role:
The Dietetics Department provides services to a very broad range of acute medical and surgical specialties throughout TUH. Senior Dietitians work as an integral part of the medical and surgical teams and are responsible for the nutritional care of patients under the care of such teams.

Overview of Role:
Key Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provide a comprehensive clinical service to patients in the area of assignment.
  2. Work in close collaboration with the other Dietitians assigned to that area and provide cross cover as required.
  3. Provide expert nutritional advice for the multidisciplinary teams and actively engage with the team by attending ward rounds, conferences, lunch meetings, and grand rounds relevant to the area.
  4. Participate in the design and implementation of protocols/procedures for nutritional screening, referral, assessment, and intervention.
  5. Record statistical information and produce reports as required.
  6. Supervise Basic Grade Dietitians and participate in their continuing professional training and development.
  7. Participate in the clinical training of Student Dietitians on placement in the Hospital.
  8. Participate in the Department's upskilling program for Dietitians, which will provide an opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills to work in other specialties.
  9. Participate in the education programs run by the department for hospital staff.
  10. Be responsible for his/her own professional development and keep abreast of developments in Nutrition and Dietetics.
  11. Initiate and actively participate in audit and quality improvement initiatives.
  12. Contribute to the enhancement of clinical practice through participation in audit and research.
  13. Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of standards and policies relating to the Nutrition & Dietetic service.
  14. Contribute to and participate in quality improvement initiatives undertaken by the department.
  15. Carry out other duties appropriate to the post, as may be assigned by the Manager of Nutrition & Dietetics.

Qualifications & Experience Required
Must:

  1. Be registered as a Dietitian by the Dietitians Registration Board at CORU.
  2. Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Dietitians Register maintained by the Dietitians Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued.
  3. Have at least 3 years full-time (or equivalent) post-qualification clinical dietetic experience.

Desirable:

  1. Post-qualification clinical dietetic experience in the acute setting.
  2. Membership of the Irish Nutrition & Dietetic Institute.

Reward & Recognition

  1. Remuneration is in accordance with the Department of Health Consolidated Salary Scales, grade code 3395.
  2. The appointment is permanent, temporary, full-time, and pensionable.
  3. The annual leave entitlement is 29 working days per year. The leave year runs from 1st April to 31st March each year.
  4. Normal working hours are 35 worked over 5 days. Your contracted hours of work are liable to change between the hours of 8 am to 8 pm over 7 days to meet the requirements for extended day services in accordance with the terms of the Framework Agreement.
