ROLE OVERVIEW

Additional Educational Needs Coordinator (AENCO) – Maternity Cover
Location: Dublin, Ireland
Start Date: August 2025
Duration: Two school terms initially (potentially extending beyond April 2026, depending on the incumbent's return)

Role Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Additional Educational Needs Coordinator (AENCO) to join our dynamic team on a maternity cover basis. The successful candidate will lead our inclusive educational approach, ensuring high standards of support for students with additional educational needs (AEN) in line with the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE

Key Responsibility 1: Leadership and Strategic Planning

  • Promote a school-wide culture of high expectations, inclusivity, and academic excellence for students with AEN.
  • Oversee and implement the AEN development plan in alignment with the school's strategic objectives and the IB curriculum.
  • Lead and manage the AEN team to maintain high standards of support and teaching.
  • Collaborate regularly with senior leadership, including Heads of Primary, Secondary, and Deputy Heads, to ensure AEN priorities are fully integrated across the school.

Key Responsibility 2: Team and Resource Management

  • Line-manage Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) and Teaching and Learning Assistants, including scheduling, coverage, and day-to-day support management.
  • Adjust staffing levels in collaboration with Finance, HR, and parents to meet changing student needs.
  • Procure and manage learning resources, ensuring they are allocated efficiently to support a diverse range of student needs.
  • Maintain high staff engagement, strong team morale, and low turnover within the AEN team.

Key Responsibility 3: Personalised Learning and Student Support

  • Develop, implement, and regularly review Personalised Learning Plans (PLPs) for students, working collaboratively with parents, teachers, and therapists.
  • Coordinate and schedule external therapies (e.g., Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy) and psychological assessments.
  • Conduct in-school observations and diagnostic assessments for students referred by teaching staff to tailor support strategies effectively.

Key Responsibility 4: Professional Development and Community Engagement

  • Design and deliver professional development workshops and sessions for teaching staff on AEN best practices and strategies.
  • Organise and lead parent engagement events, including workshops and information sessions focused on supporting students with additional needs.
  • Ensure accurate and timely organisation of exam accommodations for secondary students and assist with university access initiatives such as DARE applications.
  • Collaborate with Admissions and the Careers and Guidance Counsellor to support transitions and appropriate accommodations for incoming and graduating students.
OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE

Qualifications and Experience:

Relevant degree or qualification in Special Educational Needs (SEN) or Additional Educational Needs (AEN).

Significant experience supporting students with AEN, ideally in an international or IB school setting.

Proven leadership skills in managing support teams.

Strong organisational, communication, and diagnostic skills.

Teaching qualification (desirable).

Personal Attributes:

Passionate about inclusive education and student welfare.

Flexible, proactive, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

High attention to detail with strong time-management skills.
