Cpl Healthcare in partnership with our client who are one of Ireland's largest acute teaching hospitals, are currently recruiting a Senior Cancer Services Pharmacist to join their team in Dublin 24.

Purpose of the role:

  • The senior pharmacist cancer care will provide a clinical pharmacy service to patients in cancer care incorporating haematology, oncology, both in an inpatient and outpatient setting and clinical trials. They will be working with an experienced team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians and will embed themselves in a team looking to expand the crucial role pharmacists hold in the medicines management of this complex patient cohort.
  • There are many new and innovative services planned for the newly formed cancer care team, including, but not limited to:
  • Introduction of oral anti-cancer clinics
  • Assisting with the implementation and roll-out of the National Cancer Information System (NCIS)
  • Developing and streamlining access to compassionate use and early access programmes
  • Assisting with the set-up of the new Pharmacy Aseptic Unit
  • Quality Improvement Projects using the lean six sigma methodology

Overview of role:

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical pharmacy input into the care of patients in close co-operation with medical and nursing staff, and in accordance with departmental prioritisation procedures. This will include ward-based chart review and offering clinical input on all aspects of the medication use process.
  • Following a period of training, to provide a Collaborative Pharmaceutical Care in the Hospital (PACT) service in order to support and sustain Medication Reconciliation, inpatient pharmaceutical care and collaborative prescribing
  • Work in collaboration with nursing and medical colleagues on the outpatient day wards to advise, clinically review and determine appropriateness of prescribed systematic anticancer regimens.
  • To support the clinical trials team, including the dispensing of clinical trials and supporting the ongoing set up and maintenance of clinical trials relating to cancer care.
  • To support the implementation and operation of early access programmes relating to cancer care.
  • Ensure that the safety and efficiency of the Pharmacy services is validated by quality assurance activities by collating data on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the cancer care service. These KPIs include metrics describing workload, capacity and medication safety activity.
  • Be proficient on the use of the pharmacy compounding system, Clini-chemo utilised in the Pharmacy Aseptic Unit, incorporating new drugs requests and developing new chemotherapy protocols.
  • Participate in policy and procedure formation and the development of the clinical pharmacy cancer care service under the guidance of the Cancer Care Lead Pharmacist.
  • Support the entry of new cancer care drugs through engagement with appropriate personnel in medical, nursing or pharmacy staff.
  • Support the shortages procedure for cancer care drugs by providing expert specialist input.
  • Participate and support the aseptic unit roster as specified by the Pharmacy Aseptic Unit Manager
  • Support the Medication Safety Manager by promptly reporting any medication safety incidents and complaints. Assist with the identification of methods to minimise future re-occurrence.
  • Support the work of the Formulary Development Pharmacist as appropriate with regard to requests for new drugs in cancer care.
  • Participate in continuing education and research activities consistent with the post.
  • Participate in the on-call and weekend service duty roster.
  • Have strong organisational skills and understand how to prioritise and maximise productivity.
  • Create, promote and maintain open communications and healthy working relationships
  • Maintain the principles of equity, accountability and quality of service in daily work
  • Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time

Qualifications & Experience required

Must:

  • Be registered in the Register of Pharmacists as maintained by the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland, or be entitled to be so registered
  • Have not less than three years satisfactory post- registration hospital experience
  • Possess the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and management ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office
  • A higher qualification in clinical or hospital pharmacy (e.g. diploma or masters) to be completed by the job start date
  • Previous teaching and lecturing experience
