About the position:

Joining as a Data Scientist in the Optum Ireland analytics team offers an exciting opportunity to work with healthcare data across various business areas, enabling you to gain valuable insights throughout the member lifecycle.

Your role involves:

  • Being a forward thinker and proponent of data science methodologies
  • Researching, developing, and applying innovative analytics techniques from different sectors to healthcare data
  • Exhibiting critical thinking beyond your direct scope of work
  • Collaborating with other Data Scientists to solve complex challenges autonomously
  • Utilizing technical expertise to design and implement analytics and technology solutions enterprise-wide
  • Creating prototypes for groundbreaking products that can revolutionize the industry
  • Effectively communicating complex concepts and technologies to diverse audiences
  • Staying updated on the latest big data analytics trends and technologies
  • Experience in commercial environments and products, not limited to internal operations
  • Leading various projects including proofs of concept and new product development
  • Contributing to team initiatives and strategic objectives

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in engineering, computer science, or statistics
  • Previous experience in analytics or data science within a business or academic setting
  • Demonstrated proficiency in programming for solving complex technical issues
  • Experience in accessing data from diverse environments

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in technical fields like computer science, engineering, or mathematics
  • Proficiency in statistics, machine learning, and numerical methods
  • Extensive programming skills in Python, Pyspark, or similar languages
  • Experience with software development teams and version control systems like Git
  • Familiarity with distributed computing environments, Hadoop, Hive, Databricks, etc.
  • Experience in creating analytical solutions on cloud platforms such as Azure
  • Application of deep learning methods using TensorFlow, Keras, etc.
  • Knowledge of supervised and unsupervised learning techniques for model development and deployment
  • Application of computational algorithms and statistical methods to structured and unstructured data
