St Patrick's Mental Health Services (SPMHS) is seeking a Basic Grade Pharmacist to join our friendly team and gain experience in Hospital Pharmacy.
SPMHS Pharmacy Department has a clinically focussed Pharmacist Team.
Our Dispensary is mainly Technician-led with Accuracy Checking Technicians.
The service is Monday-Friday 9-5pm and we close 1-2pm for lunch.
This post will be 17.5 hours per week: Wednesday 9am–5pm, Thursday 9am–5pm, and Friday 9am-12.30pm.
SPMHS has electronic prescribing and records which facilitates remote/hybrid working arrangements for pharmacists where applicable.
Note: this role is dispensary based and will not include remote/hybrid working.
Basic Grade/new to Mental Health Pharmacists will get both experiential and formal online learning in various aspects of mental health including older adult, CAMHS, substance misuse, and general adult.
As part of SPMHS commitment to staff education and training, funding for additional training may be offered to the successful candidate subject to manager approval.
Applicants for this position must:
Have a degree in Pharmacy.
Be registered as a pharmacist with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland.
Have some proven clinical knowledge in the field and willing to develop the same.
Have post-registration hospital pharmacist experience (desirable).
Have experience of working in the field of psychiatry (desirable).

The role
Basic Grade Pharmacist
Part time 0.5WTE, Fixed Term Contract for 6 months
St Patrick's Mental Health Services seeks a Part time, Basic Grade Pharmacist to work as a member of the pharmacy team in St Patrick's Mental Health Services to ensure a high-quality service.
The Basic Grade Pharmacist will report to the Chief Pharmacist.
The standard working week applying to the post is 17.5 hours per week, Wednesday 9am–5pm, Thursday 9am–5pm, and Friday 9am-12.30pm.

Location
This position is located at St Patrick's Hospital, James's Street, Dublin 8.
Responsibilities
Supervising pharmacy technician staff and ensuring legislation is met when supplying or dispensing medicines
Providing guidance/advice with regards to the procurement of medicines
Advising medical and nursing staff on the safe, effective, and economical use of medicines, encouraging, and facilitating the prescription and use of generic medicines when possible
Maintaining the confidentiality of service users and staff members at all times
Providing service user and staff education about medicines
Maintaining approved standards of quality at pharmacy and ward level
Referring to and complying with legal, transit and security requirements, as well as those of physical and chemical stability in the economical purchase, storage, supply, and disposal of medicines
Maintaining records of adherence to standards required in the purchasing, quality control, compounding and dispensing of drugs/pharmaceuticals in an area which is secure and accessible by authorised personnel only
Fostering open lines of communication both within the department and with other departments in the hospital
Undertaking continuous education to ensure knowledge of and familiarity with new developments/methods related to the medical field

Qualifications and/or experience
Candidates must:
Have a degree in Pharmacy
Be registered as a pharmacist with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland
Post registration hospital pharmacist experience (desirable)
Experience of working in the field of psychiatry (desirable)

Terms and Conditions
Tenure:
Part time0.5WTE, Fixed Term contract, pensionable as below.
Working Week:
The standard working week applying to the post is 17.5 hours per week, Wednesday 9am–5pm, Thursday 9am–5pm, and Friday 9am-12.30pm.
Salary:
The salary for the position is based on the SPMHS Pharmacist 2025 pay scale (€48,924 - €78,385) pro rata and is commensurate with experience.
Annual Leave
The annual leave associated with the position 27 days per annum pro rata.
Pension:
All pensionable staff become members of the pension scheme after successful completion of probation.
The scheme is a defined contribution scheme with a deduction from the salary of the employee of 4%.
In respect of an internal appointment being made the individuals existing pension arrangements will continue.
Probation:
The appointee will be appointed in a probationary capacity for the first six months during which time the job holder's performance will be subject to ongoing review.
Any extension to or suspension of the period of probation will be in line with the European Union (Transparent and Predictable Working Conditions) 2022.
Health:
The appointee must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the position and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
Character:
The appointee must be of good character.
Retirement Age:
Normal retirement age for employees is 66 years which at present is also normal pension age.
