Responsibilities
Provide Clinical Engineering and Technical support to all hospital medical devices, including diagnostic, analytical, therapeutic, surgical, renal dialysis and life support systems, as directed by the Reporting Relationship.
Liaise with other staff and grades within and outside the service/line manager as necessitated in the identification, acquisition, and support of safe, effective, and economical technology as part of a healthcare professional team.
Assist in the installation, commissioning, and recording of medical devices, and support device lifecycle management after purchase.
Provide clinical support and consultancy services to business managers, service managers, medical staff, and other HSCPs.
Work in partnership with other engineering grades in the health sector (ICT, Hospital Networks, Estates) as device interdependencies grow.
Description and Context
There are currently four Biomedical Engineers based in UHK who provide technical and clinical support for a diverse and complex range of medical devices across clinical areas such as theatres, maternity services, intensive care units, dialysis, cardiology, endoscopy, and laboratories.
Some devices are maintained in-house, on service contracts, or supported by a combination of in-house and external engineers plus clinical specialists.
Engineers participate in the multi-disciplinary Product Evaluation Group (PEG) during tendering, formulate technical specifications, and conduct product evaluations.
Following purchase, they help oversee installation, commissioning, and ongoing management of devices.
Care is delivered in varied settings, with evolving care models to meet the health service demands, within the broader context of healthcare reform.
Purpose of the Post
The Senior Clinical Engineering Technician will provide clinical engineering and technical support to all hospital medical devices, including diagnostic, analytical, therapeutic, surgical, renal dialysis and life support systems, as directed by the Reporting Relationship.
S/he will liaise with other staff and grades within and outside the service to identify, acquire, and support safe, effective, and economical technology as part of a healthcare professional team, in the provision and advancement of patient care.
