Mastercard's Dispute Management solutions aim to solve consumer disputes and improve the payment experiences for consumers, issuers, and merchants. With more digital transactions, the need to manage chargebacks is becoming increasingly important. We aim to improve purchase transparency and simplify the dispute process to protect business revenues and grow customer satisfaction.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Software Engineer to join our dynamic team. As a Principal Software Engineer in Disputes Management, you will play a critical role in leading the design, development, and implementation of our next generation regional and global platforms. You will have the opportunity to work on complex and innovative projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive technical excellence and deliver high-quality solutions.

The Principal Software Engineering role will ensure these products continue to meet the high expectations from our customers by improving existing functionality and updating stale or outdated functions.

Role:
  1. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of software engineers, guiding them in best practices and problem-solving.
  2. Design and develop complex software architectures using Java and microservices.
  3. Set architectural goals, assign tasks, and provide guidance and support to team members.
  4. Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of software architecture projects.
  5. Design highly scalable, fault-tolerant, and performant systems On-Prem and in Cloud.
  6. Support services before they go live through activities such as system design consulting, capacity planning, and launch reviews.
  7. Maintain services once they are live by measuring and monitoring availability, latency, and overall system health.
  8. Identify and mitigate risks associated with solution architecture and technical designs.
  9. Practice sustainable incident response and blameless post-mortems.
  10. Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  11. Create technical specifications, conduct architectural reviews, and ensure adherence to design principles and best practices.
  12. Drive innovation by identifying new architectural patterns and methodologies to improve software systems.
  13. Conduct experiments, simulations, and analyses to develop new architectural solutions.
  14. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, development, corporate security, and operations, to align architectural efforts with business objectives.
  15. Coordinate with external partners and stakeholders to leverage additional expertise and resources.
  16. Test and validate architectural designs to ensure they meet required standards and specifications.
  17. Analyze data, write technical reports, and present findings to stakeholders.
  18. Implement process improvements and stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in Java, microservices, and software architecture.
All About You:
  1. Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, or Engineering.
  2. Several years of experience in software architecture and lead engineering positions.
  3. Strong leadership and management skills.
  4. Excellent problem-solving and technical skills.
  5. Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
  6. Proven ability to manage multiple high priority demands while driving consistent results.
  7. Ability to work as a member of a diverse and geographically distributed team.
  8. Expert knowledge of software development principles, design patterns, and best practices.
  9. Expert knowledge of Advanced Java, Spring Framework, Persistence technologies, Performance tools, and Testing frameworks.
  10. Strong knowledge of Cloud providers (PCF, AWS, Azure), Containers and Container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
  11. Knowledge of Messaging technologies (e.g. Apache Kafka), high volume batch processing technologies (e.g. Apache Spark) a plus.
  12. Understanding of Application Programming Interface (API) standards and experience cataloguing to drive API/service adoption and commercialization.
  13. Proven track record of designing and developing large-scale, enterprise-grade software solutions.
