About the team and the role:
eBay is seeking
a Senior Engineer
for our
Cloud Databases and Storage organization
, which builds and operates a petabyte-scale core data platform powering large-scale database, storage, caching, and media infrastructure.
This role offers the opportunity to architect, build, and operate the next-generation distributed database and storage platform that supports critical systems for eBay's global ecommerce operations.
You will be responsible for scaling eBay's core data infrastructure by collaborating with engineers, customers, business partners, and product managers.
What you will accomplish:
Build and manage massively scalable database and storage systems for eBay.
Lead and design data infrastructure using your expertise in distributed systems, storage, and large-scale database systems, collaborating with peers.
Work in an agile environment focused on problem-solving and engineering excellence.
Assess technical challenges, design solutions, and oversee implementation to meet business needs.
Collaborate with architects, engineering leaders, and product managers to develop innovative solutions that meet standards.
Guide junior and senior engineers in building scalable, high-speed distributed systems, ensuring quality and design standards are met.
Contribute to all phases of product development, including design, testing, release, bug fixes, and documentation.
Bring new ideas and industry best practices to create impact for eBay and its customers.
What you will bring:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science plus 8+ years of experience or MS plus 6+ years in building large-scale distributed systems.
Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals, data structures, and algorithms.
Experience in designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, distributed systems, storage, and databases.
Hands-on expertise in Object-Oriented Design, Distributed Programming, using C++, Java, and various database systems (NoSQL and relational).
Ability to lead architecture discussions, produce design documentation, and participate in reviews.
Commitment to code quality, maintainability, and continuous improvement of architecture and tools.
Experience with support, release, and on-call responsibilities for a 24x7 operational environment.
