Letterkenny University Hospital is an acute general and maternity hospital delivering a patient-centred, quality-driven focused service and a wide range of diagnostic and support services. LUH is a teaching hospital with links to the University of Galway, the Royal College of Surgeons, The Royal College of Physicians of Ireland and the Atlantic Technological University. Undergraduate Nurse, Midwifery, and AHP training and clinical placements are also provided at the hospital along with post grad.

Description
  1. To carry out the duties of the office in the Hospital and at such other locations as may be required by the Health Service Executive (H.S.E.) - West Area.
  2. Calibration and maintenance of all equipment which includes sterilisation/cleaning, where necessary.
  3. Perform regular safety and hygiene checks on equipment and environment in accordance with local/corporate policy.
  4. History taking and interpretation of request forms.
  5. Performing the procedures, reporting and highlighting abnormal recordings.
  6. Availability outside normal working hours for emergency situations.
  7. Portable testing in some cases.
  8. Participation in in-patient care, preparation and reassurance of patient.
  9. To attend at such times and such places as may be fixed by the Health Service Executive (H.S.E.) - West Area or head of department and to remain in attendance there as long as his/her services are required.
  10. To initiate and participate in dealing with medical emergencies including cardiac resuscitation.
  11. To keep such records appropriate to his/her office as he/she may be required by the Health Service Executive (H.S.E.) - West Area.
  12. To be responsible (when required by the Chief Cardiac Physiologist) for rostering to include leave and to identify locum requirements. To communicate roster requirements with the Chief/designated officer.
  13. To be involved/participate in the in-service training and college placement programs and to assist the Chief in the developments of new codes of practice and training protocols.
  14. To be involved in the development of new procedures which may be introduced.
  15. Maintain open lines of communication with the Chief Cardiac Physiologist /non-invasive Cardiology department LUH for the purposes of professional development and peer support, clinical governance and quality assurance.
  16. To participate, where feasible, in relevant in house training and continuous professional development.
  17. Any responsibilities within the department as deemed necessary by the Chief Cardiac Physiologist and or designated supervising officer.
  18. Management of patient scheduling and reporting in conjunction with designated clerical officers through the use of the local Cardiovascular Information System (CVIS).
  19. Have a working knowledge of the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) Standards as they apply to the role for example, Standards for Healthcare, National Standards for the Prevention and Control of Healthcare Associated Infections, Hygiene Standards etc.
  20. To participate in the development of Cardiac Policies Procedures and Protocols as required by the department.
  21. To have an understanding of the philosophy of the Cardiology department and how it aligns with hospital and corporate philosophy.
  22. To promote best practice and be an advocate for excellence.

The applicant will have comprehensive working knowledge and experience of cardiac invasive and non-invasive procedures in particular one or all of the following: Pacing/device implant/follow-up, Electrophysiology studies, Echocardiography Performance and reporting, Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory.
