Role Summary

This role offers responsibility for maintaining and generating sales of defined product groups against specified targets on own territory. In addition to managing relationships with existing and expanding list of individual veterinary practices, it also involves developing contacts and business opportunities across the wider animal health industry.

Key Functions and Activities

  • Develop and achieve agreed sales targets within a supportive environment.
  • Call on an existing client list of veterinary practices and other relevant customers at an agreed frequency throughout the year.
  • Maintain an excellent knowledge of the DVS CA product range, including veterinary medicines and orthopaedics.
  • Work with CA Business Manager and wider DVS management to grow business in both buying groups and corporate accounts.
  • Work and engage closely with key veterinary groups, supporting and developing the overall business in key product areas.
  • Promote an existing range of veterinary medicines and instruments to all accounts.
  • Build annual business plan to assist in achievement of agreed targets and review and amend as necessary throughout the year.
  • Work with company Technical Veterinary Advisor to add value to customers and use this important resource to drive revenue growth.
  • Explore opportunities to grow existing business outside core vet channel and manage new accounts to maximise sales opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key accounts and new potential customers.
  • Develop ways of offering increased value and service to all clients to further build the company reputation and brand.
  • Submit details of sales, market and competitor information, and client activity in your area on a regular basis.
  • Plan and review territory activity using modern analytical techniques.
  • Attend customer trade shows or other business development events as needed.
  • Encourage adoption and usage of customer ordering portal.
  • Gather and share market information and intelligence to assist in development of overall company strategy and plan.
  • Update company systems i.e CRM, Herbst, as required.
  • Work with procurement, finance, marketing and other departments as required to ensure smooth operation of all aspects of the business to help drive overall company growth and success.

Person Specification

  • Previous experience in selling and developing business relationships in the Animal Health sector – strong candidates with sales experience in related industry sectors will be considered.
  • Degree in life sciences including agricultural science, veterinary science or animal science will be preferable.
  • Account management experience and effective selling skills, including key account and business planning, forecasts, account analysis and performance measurement.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills and a proven ability to establish, develop and maintain long-term customer relationships.
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to work with an ability to look for new and innovative approaches to add value to DVS and key customer groups.
  • Good computing skills, including experience of using Microsoft Excel and databases.
  • Good organisation skills, strong self-motivation, initiative and self-starter, with great work ethic.
  • A professional appearance, providing a positive company image to the public.
  • Demonstrable record of target achievement.
  • Strong team player.
  • Current clean drivers' licence.
