Senior Staff Engineer, Manufacturing Permanent Position Position Overview The Senior Staff Engineer is a key technical leader responsible for developing, optimizing, and overseeing manufacturing processes for medical implants.
As a subject matter expert, the Senior Staff Engineer collaborates cross-functionally with R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, and Regulatory teams to develop new technologies, troubleshoot complex issues, and implement best practices.
This individual will lead efforts in scaling up new processes, ensuring compliance with FDA, ISO 13485, and other applicable medical device regulations.
The ideal candidate has significant experience in thermal spray coatings or related deposition technologies, or materials science experience, and a proven track record of implementing robust manufacturing solutions in a regulated industry.
Strong problem-solving skills, leadership in technical projects, and the ability to mentor engineers and technicians are essential for success in this role.
What you will do: Develop a detailed understanding of best practices in product/process performance within the Medical Devices industry. Develop a support network of key divisional/corporate leaders, academic, and supplier partners to enhance understanding of product manufacture and quality. Drive high levels of employee engagement through an effective support structure for all engineers. Develop technical solutions to complex problems requiring in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Develop system-level design strategies. Lead design, development, testing, and refinement of systems, sub-systems, and components. Recommend procedural changes. Serve as a technical advisor to engineering personnel. What you will need: Level 8 Honours Degree in an Engineering discipline. 6+ years manufacturing experience with increasing responsibility. Desired: Advanced Degree, ideally Masters, Black Belt, or PhD. Experience in thermal spray coatings or related deposition technologies, or materials science. Excellent communication and influencing skills. Ability to lead a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a process improvement orientation. Willingness to source, investigate, and implement technological and automation advances. Confident decision-maker with proven technical leadership abilities.
