Thomas Small & Sons is a Commercial Body Builders established in ****.The company manufactures commercial bodies specialising in vehicle transportation, recovery bodies and tow trucks.Purpose of the Post: Fabricate, position, align and fit parts of structural metal products to manufacture tilt & slide recovery bodies, beavertail recovery bodies and double deck car transporters.ResponsibilitiesØPosition, align, fit and weld parts to form complete units or subunits, following blueprints and layout specifications, and using jigs, welding torches, and hand tools.ØVerify conformance of workpieces to specifications, using squares, rulers, measuring tapesØWeld parts together.ØLay out and examine metal stock or workpieces to be processed to ensure that specifications are met.ØLift or move materials and finished products using forklifts and chain blocks.ØLocate and mark workpieces bending and cutting lines, allowing for stock thickness, machine and welding shrinkage and other component specifications.ØPosition or tighten braces, jacks, clamps or bolt parts in position for welding or riveting.ØStudy engineering drawings and blueprints to determine materials requirements and task sequences.ØMove parts into position manually or with hoists/forklifts.ØSet up and operate fabricating machines such as brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters, grinders, and drill presses to bend, cut and form, punch, drill or otherwise form and assemble metal components.ØHeat-treat parts using torchesØHammer, chip and grand workpieces to cut, bend and straighten metal.ØDesign and construct templates and fixtures using hand tools.ØMark reference points onto floors or face blocks and transpose them to workpieces using measuring devices, squares, chalk and soapstone.ØSet up face blocks, jigs and fixtures.ØRemove high spots and cut bevels using hand files, portable grinders and cutting torches.ØPreheat workpieces to make them malleable using hand torches or furnaces.ØTravel to customers to carry out repairs and replacement of parts as necessary.QualificationsØ Hold Welder Qualification CertificateExperienceØ Previous work related skill, knowledge and experienceØ Candidates for and any person holding the position must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the post and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.Ø Candidates for and any person holding the position must be of good character.
