The project:
A full-time experienced senior sustainability manager to support a nationally significant infrastructure programme.
Supports the establishment of a sustainability function within the programme and will work cross-functionally with contractors and consultants to help capture market-leading sustainable solutions that are innovative and efficient throughout the lifecycle.
Assists in establishing sustainability, efficiency, and innovation performance metrics based on programme objectives using global benchmarks and leading practices.
Provides support in designing and implementing the performance measurement framework to enable the programme to meet or exceed those targets.
The successful candidate will be part of the Mace Responsible Business global practice team, delivering client-facing consultancy services including advising, managing, and coordinating climate change, sustainability, and social value activities on projects or programmes.
The role may also support work-winning efforts and will proactively support Mace's wider corporate sustainability ambitions.

You'll be responsible for:
Ensuring project teams and suppliers/subcontractors meet corporate and client sustainability targets, aiming to innovate and exceed compliance for positive outcomes.
Managing sustainability reporting and compliance, embedding data collection processes throughout project activities.
Providing environmental technical support and troubleshooting as a focal point.
Championing and promoting sustainability innovation and identifying improvement opportunities.
Engaging stakeholders through communication, developing, and delivering sustainability training.
Supporting sustainable supply chain practices through procurement review and challenge.
Driving business efficiency through standardized purchasing processes and partnerships.
Representing the client in internal and external meetings related to sustainability.
Supporting assurance processes and collaborating with HSEQ personnel to optimize activities.
Conducting inspections, identifying non-conformance, and ensuring corrective actions.
Contributing to risk management, establishing procedures, and producing reports and presentations.
Supporting corporate environmental and sustainability initiatives such as knowledge sharing and volunteering.
You'll also have:
Proven experience in the construction industry, embedding sustainability in large-scale projects.
A degree in a relevant environmental or science discipline.
Experience in stakeholder engagement, environmental management systems, and sustainability topics like waste, carbon, responsible sourcing, water, and biodiversity.
Membership in IEMA or similar professional body.
Strong communication, IT, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate technical topics for lay audiences.
