The senior SQL server database administrator (DBA) provides the operational support and development of the Microsoft SQL server infrastructure production and non-production environments, which includes database servers, database services, and implementation of SQL-based tools and infrastructure. The senior SQL DBA will provide tier 2 and tier 3 technical support for database systems. This role is responsible for providing operational database services for corporate infrastructure. As this is a production DBA role, it may require some after-hours support. Some of the primary responsibilities include owning, tracking, and resolving database-related incidents and requests, fulfilling requests and resolving incidents within SLAs, reviewing service-related reports (e.g., database backups, maintenance, monitoring) on a daily basis to ensure service-related issues are identified and resolved, and working with team members to develop strategic solutions.

Responsibilities:
  • Build, configure, and deploy SQL databases
  • Develop and oversee backup strategies for the SQL server infrastructure
  • Manage SQL database security
  • Control privileges and permissions for database users
  • Review, analyze, evaluate, and recommend new/existing technologies that might increase productivity, reduce downtime, or improve the quality of work related to SQL server systems
  • Work closely with business and IT associates, and outside vendors to effectively choose, plan, deploy, and maintain system changes
  • Provide support for the SQL environment
  • Establish and maintain Microsoft SQL database architecture best practices, including procedures, guides, templates, and relevant documentation
  • Provide operational support and development of the Microsoft SQL server infrastructure production and non-production environments, which includes database servers, database services, and implementation of SQL-based tools and infrastructure
  • Experience with SQL in virtual, physical, and cloud-based environments
Requirements:
  • At least 5-8 years of database administration, extract, transform, and load (ETL) experience in a SQL server environment with Microsoft SQL server 2012 or higher
  • Experience in performance tuning and optimization, using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools
  • Previous experience working with large databases (at least half a terabyte) is necessary
  • 5 plus years' experience as a database administrator with Microsoft SQL server 2012 or higher
  • Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database problems
  • Experience with backups, restores, and recovery models
  • Knowledge of indexes, index management, and statistics
