Overview
Junior Electrical/Mechanical Project Engineer.
Site-Based Construction Project Engineer responsible for the delivery of mechanical and electrical packages on construction projects.
Reports to the Project Manager and supports coordination, planning, and execution of on-site activities to ensure work is delivered safely, on time, and to high quality standards.
Acts as the technical interface between design, procurement, and site teams, manages engineering documentation, supports subcontractor activities, and resolves technical queries during installation and commissioning.
This role is hands-on with a strong presence on site, engaging with tradespeople, foremen, supervisors, and other contractors.
Will ensure compliance with design specifications, health and safety regulations, and client requirements, contributing to continuous improvement of installation practices.
Work directly impacts project delivery, budget adherence, and client satisfaction.
Responsibilities
Ensure mechanical and electrical systems are installed in accordance with design drawings, project specifications, and programme schedules.
Update schedule progress to planners and provide related information for project indicators.
Oversee preparation, review, and tracking of engineering documents including RFIs, method statements, technical submittals, and as-built records.
Provide technical guidance and resolve site issues by liaising with design consultants, suppliers, and site foremen to facilitate efficient problem-solving.
Support site safety inspections and contribute to quality control processes to ensure work meets legal and contractual standards.
Assist in planning and executing pre-commissioning and commissioning tasks, ensuring systems are tested, signed off, and handed over in line with client expectations.
Ensure Lean initiatives are used on site, driving productivity and quality improvements.
Drive continuous improvement across all aspects of site activities.
Qualifications
Degree or diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or Building Services), or a relevant construction engineering discipline.
Understanding of mechanical and/or electrical systems in a construction environment (e.g., HVAC, LV/MV distribution, BMS, plumbing, fire systems).
Proven capability to identify and resolve site-based technical and coordination issues effectively.
Strong communication skills with tradespeople, engineers, clients, and third parties, both verbally and in technical documentation.
Competence in Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, BIM viewers, and project collaboration tools (e.g., Procore, BIM 360).
Knowledge of site safety practices and regulations, ideally with a valid Safe Pass or equivalent.
