What You Can Expect The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for leading design for manufacturing (DFM) initiatives, optimizing cost processes, and identifying and managing strategic projects.
This concurrent engineering role requires a high level of technical expertise, leadership, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient and cost-effective manufacturing processes.
How You'll Create Impact Design for Manufacturing (DFM):
o Lead DFM initiatives to ensure product designs are optimized for manufacturability.
o Collaborate with product design teams to influence design decisions that enhance manufacturability, reduce costs, and improve product quality.
o Develop and implement DFM guidelines and best practices.
Cost Optimization:
o Analyze and identify opportunities for cost reduction in manufacturing processes.
o Implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising product quality and performance.
o Work closely with product development, procurement, and supply chain teams to evaluate and select cost-effective materials and suppliers.
Project Identification and Management:
o Identify strategic projects that will improve manufacturing efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
o Lead cross-functional project teams to plan, execute, and complete projects within scope, on time, and within budget.
o Monitor project progress, report on milestones, and ensure adherence to project timelines.
Technical Leadership:
o Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers and manufacturing staff.
o Stay current with advancements in manufacturing technologies and incorporate relevant innovations into the manufacturing process.
o Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and quality control measures.
Collaboration and Communication:
o Work closely with design, production, quality, and procurement teams to ensure seamless integration of manufacturing processes.
o Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels to keep them informed of project status and any issues that may arise.
o Prepare and present technical reports, proposals, and recommendations to senior management.
Interface with 3rd party suppliers, contractors, testing houses, etc.Assist the P28 Quality and Supply Chain departments to evaluate new suppliers for inclusion in the P28 approved supplier listAssist P28 Quality team in developing inspection plansParticipate in root cause analysis and corrective action development for design related issues in released productAssist with other development projects as additional resource when needed, while balancing own workloadOther duties as directed by manager What Makes You Stand Out Industry-Specific Knowledge & Experience Hands-on experience with medical-grade materials (e.g., titanium, PEEK, UHMWPE, cobalt-chrome)Familiarity with orthopedic implants/instruments manufacturing processes (e.g., CNC machining, additive manufacturing, injection molding)Continuous Improvement & Problem-Solving Demonstrated success in reducing scrap rates, improving cycle times, or increasing yieldProven ability to lead or contribute to root cause analysis (RCA) and CAPA investigationsDeveloped and optimized fixture/tooling designs to enhance manufacturing qualityInnovation & Adaptability Involvement in automation or digital manufacturing initiativesAdaptable to fast-paced, highly regulated environmentsContinuous learner with certifications like Lean Six Sigma, ASQ CQE, or GD&T Your Background Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or a equivalent experience.Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in manufacturing engineering or a related field.Proven experience in leading DFM initiatives and cost optimization projects.Strong project management skills, with a track record of successfully managing and completing projects.In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and quality control standards.Proficiency in CAD/CAM software and other engineering tools.Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.Ability to lead and mentor junior engineers and manufacturing staff.Understanding of medical device industry regulatory requirements required.High proficiency in MS OfficeEffective communication and presentation skills with ability to convey information and respond to questions from groups of peersAbility to work in a team environment Travel Expectations Up to 10% overnight travel
Compensation Data Target Salary Range $108,000 to $121,000 USD annually - depending on skills and experience
Position can be Hybrid or fully remote in the US
