Mechanical Design Engineer Our Client is an award-winning technology company, leveraging patented IP in extreme ultraviolet (EUV) light source design through the development of a unique lab-scale soft x-ray imaging microscope that is used to generate high-resolution 3D images of the internal structure of biological cells. It markets its products and services to a global market of disease and drug research organisations. Now seeking to grow its organisation with the recruitment of additional product development staff who have the ambition to grow their careers as the company grows. The role ofMechanical Design Engineer offers the opportunity to fully employ and develop the skillset of a talented engineer while developing very high precision electro-mechanical / optical assemblies that operate in a vacuum environment. The successful candidate will contribute to delivering first of its kind technology and the role will afford ample opportunity to implement meaningful design change as we progress with product commercialisation. S/he will enjoy working in a multidisciplinary environment and will have a mix of skills with a strong foundation in solid mechanics, thermodynamics and materials. Duties and Responsibilities: The position will report into the Engineering Manager and the ideal candidate will have a strong aptitude for mechanical design and an ability to work from first principals in solving problems. Specific knowledge of the design of mechanisms and design for machining are an advantage. The role will involve: Design of CE-marked, precision mechanical equipment for a laboratory environment Analysis of problems and associated root cause analyses. Ensuring that all engineering documentation created as part of tasks meet the requirements of internal procedures & strict timelines. This includes CAD, engineering drawings, BOMs, Technical Specifications, Test Plans and other program deliverables Ensure that designs comply with all relevant specifications via well-presented calculations and analysis. Generate and perform validation / testing programmes of designs. Undertake continuous improvement activities Module/System construction and testing On site systems integration and commissioning at collaborator sites worldwide Selection Criteria Applicants will be qualified to a bachelor's degree level in mechanical engineering or equivalent and will ideally have 2 years experience in a relevant design environment. Applicants should also demonstrate a hands-on interest in mechanical engineering though hobby and other extracurricular activities. They will be assessed based on how well they satisfy the required knowledge and experience criteria, which are summarised as: Required: Ability to design mechanical assemblies from first principles (specific emphasis is placed upon a strong understanding of Solid Mechanics, Thermal Dynamics, Materials and Vibration) Strong analytical and problem-solving skills An appreciation for how components are machined in practice Hands-on system design and construction experience Ready familiarity with 3D CAD applications e.g. SolidWorks, Creo(Pro/E), NX Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Advantageous Practical Machining Experience Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing Competence in Finite Element Analysis 3rd party regulatory approval (particularly CE Marking) experience. Vacuum systems and instrumentation experience Optical/systems design and implementation Optical and scientific data acquisition analysis Cryogenic systems Experience & skills in project management Skills: Mechanical Engineering Design Engineer Mechanical Design Engineer CAD Solidworks Finite Element Analysis Benefits: Performance Bonus Pension Medical
