
Medical Secretary Temporary

This role involves supporting multiple consultants across various specialties and is key to ensuring the smooth coordination of patient care, clinic scheduling, theatre bookings, and cath lab procedures.
In addition to core secretarial duties, the role includes wider administrative responsibilities such as supporting technology updates, engaging with GPs, and working closely with senior management to enhance efficiency and stakeholder communication.
Key Responsibilities: Provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to multiple consultants.
Coordinate and manage patient appointments for outpatient clinics, theatre procedures, day ward admissions, and cath lab bookings.
Act as a point of contact for patients, GPs, nursing staff, and consultants, ensuring clear and timely communication.
Accurately type clinical correspondence, medical reports, referral letters, and discharge summaries including audio typing where required.
Maintain consultant diaries, handle rescheduling or cancellations efficiently, and ensure optimal use of theatre and diagnostic resources.
Assist with implementing technology and system updates relevant to consultant practice management (e.g., electronic health records, booking systems).
Support consultant engagement with GPs and referring clinicians through regular communication and follow-up.
Collaborate with senior management to identify and implement service improvements, contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and patient-centred care.
Ensure confidentiality and compliance with all healthcare regulations and data protection standards.
Provide cross-cover support for team members during periods of leave or peak activity.
Candidate Requirements: A relevant secretarial or business qualification.
Previous experience in a similar medical secretarial or administrative role, preferably in a private hospital setting.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a professional and compassionate approach to patient care.
Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to work on your own initiative.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and familiarity with healthcare IT systems.
Audio typing experience is an advantage.
Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise effectively, and remain calm under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
A proven track record in delivering outstanding customer service.
Flexible, reliable, and a proactive team player willing to contribute to the wider team as needed.
