About the Role: The Financial Accountant will report to the Financial Controller and will be responsible for producing accurate financial and management accounts, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting strategic decision-making.
This role involves managing complex accounting processes, reviewing the work of junior staff, and ensuring the integrity of financial data across two trading companies and two holding companies.
Key Responsibilities: Prepare and review monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet, and variance analysis.
Lead month-end close activities including accruals, prepayments, and journal entries.
Manage statutory reporting, year-end accounts, and liaise with auditors.
Prepare and submit VAT, PAYE, and VIES returns accurately and on time.
Oversee accounts payable and receivable, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Maintain and review balance sheet reconciliations.
Oversee the company's payroll process.
Update and monitor fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules.
Prepare ad-hoc financial analysis and KPI reports for management.
Manage, mentor and review the work of the Trainee Accountant.
Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and internal controls.
Ensure all daily tasks, reconciliations, and reporting requirements are completed on time.
Contribute to the ongoing improvement of financial controls and processes.
Support ad-hoc projects as required.
The Candidate: The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with exceptional attention to detail and a strong problem-solving mindset.
They should demonstrate the ability to work independently while thriving as part of a team.
We are seeking someone who is curious, willing to learn, and committed to improving processes rather than accepting the status quo.
A proactive approach, coupled with the confidence to challenge existing practices constructively, will be key to success in this role.
Skills & Qualifications: Professional accounting qualification (ACCA, ACA, CPA, or equivalent).
Minimum of 3 years' experience in financial or management accounting.
Strong understanding of accounting standards and tax compliance.
Advanced Excel and ERP system skills (SAP B1 experience an advantage).
Proven ability to prepare monthly management accounts, statutory accounts, and audit packs.
Strong numerical and analytical abilities to interpret data and identify trends or variances.
Payroll experience (advantageous but not essential).
Power BI experience (advantageous but not essential).
