GALWAY JOB REF: 82746 The Role: To provide clinical nursing skills in supporting people with intellectual disabilities in achieving an optimum level of independence.

To exhibit and maintain best nursing practice and apply skills to ensure the physical, social, and emotional needs of the people supported by the services in their care are addressed at all times.

Be responsible for the provision of nursing care and also be an informed resource in order to develop the skills and abilities of the wider team.

To lead the shift and to work in a constructive, flexible, and positive manner with all colleagues.

To actively participate in, and contribute to, ensuring compliance with HIQA or new Directions standards.

Reporting/Responsible To: Team Leader / Team Manager/ Service Co-ordinator / Area Manager.

Working With: People supported by the services and their families/Team Leader/Team manager/Multidisciplinary staff / Service Management.

Qualifications/Experience: A current Live Register Certificate from the NMBI (An Bord Altranais), RNID, RPN or RGN qualification is essential.

Candidates must have relevant experience and an appreciation of the responsibilities of the post and issues affecting the everyday lives of individuals with an Intellectual Disability.

Experience of working with people with High Medical Needs, Complex Mental Health, Autism, Dementia and Challenging behaviour is an advantage.

A full clean manual Driving Licence, which qualifies you to drive manual transmission vehicles on Irish Roads and use of your own car is an essential requirement.

It is essential for the appointee to drive the transport that is assigned to the Service.

Skills: The Staff Nurse/Enhanced Nurse must demonstrate: Good judgement, discretion and confidentiality.

The ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms, and to communicate sensitively with family members and work with them for the best outcomes.

Creative problem solving skills.

The ability to work independently and seek support from multi-disciplinary colleagues as appropriate.

Patience, flexibility, creativity and eagerness to become involved in a range of activities.

Ability to educate other staff and family members in positive health promotion needs.

The successful candidate will be required to co-operate in a team environment with a person-centred philosophy, participate in person-centred planning, individual reviews, team meetings, attend and participate in training courses, and actively contribute to team based performance management.

Working Hours: 37.5 hours per fortnight based on a 14 day duty roster.

While the hours are predominately Monday - Friday, 09:30-16:30, the successful candidate may be required to work weekends, public holidays and night duty if necessary to meet service needs.

The Brothers of Charity model of service is based on Personal Outcome Measures requiring employees to be flexible in their working hours to provide a quality service delivery for each individual.

Annual Leave: 24 days per annum.

Appropriate service-related leave will be granted after 5 and 10 years service respectively.

Remuneration: Department of Health salary scales as at 01/03/2025 apply: Staff Nurse - 36,919 x 11 increments - 53,340 pro rata per annum.

Long Service Increment 54,928 per annum is granted after 3 years on the maximum of the scale.

*Enhanced Nurse - 43,872 x 7 increments - 55,093 per annum (pro-rata for part-time).

Long Service Increment 56,706 per annum (pro-rata for part-time) is granted after 3 years on the maximum of the scale.

*As per HSE HR Circular 022/2019 - Nursing and Midwifery - the Enhanced Nurse / Midwife Practice Contract once a staff nurse reaches point 4 on the Staff Nurse salary scale, they become eligible to apply for the role of Enhanced Nurse.

Any Staff Nurse who wishes to avail of the Enhanced Nurse role will have to submit an application and also meet the qualifying criteria.

The successful candidate will be granted incremental credit subject to satisfactory verification of previous relevant nursing service and where applicable will be placed on the enhanced staff nurse scale.

Tenure: This post is permanent part-time and pensionable.

Probation: A probationary period of nine months from the date of appointment applies to the post.

The employment may be terminated at any time during the probationary period should the employer find that the appointee is unsuitable to continue employment.

The probation period may be extended at the Employer's discretion.
