The Role

We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented and technically skilled Senior Calibration Technician to join our team. In this role, you will take primary responsibility for the calibration, testing, and verification of environmental monitoring instruments in our laboratories to ensure accuracy, reliability, and compliance with industry standards. You will also support system commissioning, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of our calibration processes. This is a hands-on role that requires precision, technical expertise, and collaboration with our engineering and manufacturing teams.

Key Responsibilities

Calibration and Verification of Instruments

  • Perform regular calibration and adjustment of monitoring instruments to maintain measurement accuracy.
  • Verify instrument performance against required specifications and document results.
  • Maintain calibration standards, records, and certificates in compliance with regulatory requirements. E.g. ISO 9001.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve calibration-related issues, including drift, errors, or malfunctions.

Routine Maintenance and Quality Assurance

  • Carry out scheduled maintenance and functional checks on instrumentation.
  • Support continuous improvement of calibration and quality control procedures.
  • Ensure instruments and calibration tools are well-maintained, safe, and traceable.
  • Drive the development of new calibration steps or task automation to improve quality and expand operation speed and ease.

Support for Installation and Commissioning

  • Advise customers on installation and commissioning of new instrumentation systems to ensure successful measurement.
  • Provide customer and internal team support with sensor setup, configuration, and verification during deployment.
  • Identify and resolve calibration or measurement issues during system integration.

Data Collection and Analysis

  • Collect, analyse, and interpret calibration data to monitor performance trends.
  • Identify anomalies, recommend corrective actions, and propose improvements.
  • Prepare calibration and performance reports for internal records, audits, and customer requirements.

Documentation and Compliance

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation including calibration procedures, maintenance manuals, and quality records.
  • Ensure all work complies with relevant standards, regulations, and safety requirements.
  • Participate in safety and compliance training to uphold industry best practices.

Business and Laboratory Expansion

  • Work with our customers and overseas partners to manage and drive calibration across fleets of instruments.
  • Develop industry relationships to find new customers and new calibration partners.
  • Develop systems of work, documentation and technology that can be replicated in our international offices and with international partners.
  • Lead the commissioning of new service and calibration centers in our international offices.
Qualifications
  • Qualification in Engineering, Science, Instrumentation, or related discipline. Equivalent industry experience also considered.
  • 3+ years' experience in calibration, instrumentation, or a related technical field.
  • Strong understanding of calibration principles, measurement accuracy, and traceability.
  • Experience with quality standards such as ISO 17025.
  • Direct experience with electro-acoustics standards such as IEC 61672, air quality standards such as MCERTS, TS 17660-2 or field assessment standards such as ISO 1996 or BS 4142 are a distinct advantage.
  • Hands-on experience with instrumentation, electronics assembly, and troubleshooting.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organisational, and documentation skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities for collaboration and customer-facing tasks.
  • IT proficiency including command line tools, file transfer protocols, and system configuration as well as specific laboratory software such as NI Labview.
  • Experience with data analysis and visualisation tools is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of stock control systems is beneficial.
  • Proactive mindset, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn.
