As we embark on an exciting new phase in Sunbeam and set our Strategic Plan for the next five years, we are recruiting a dynamic and experienced Operations Director to join the Senior Leadership Team and be a key player in supporting our vision, values and mission statement. With a staff team of over 560 and client base of circa 300 you will be a collaborative and engaging leader with a passion for Operational Leadership within the Social Care Sector (Intellectual Disabilities).
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Planning and Organisational Development:
Contribute to the development and implementation of the Strategic and Corporate Plan and assume lead responsibility for strategic priorities and/or projects relating to the management and delivery of operational services. - Service Delivery:
Oversee the management of resources (human, material and financial) to ensure optimum quality across all areas of operational service delivery within a context of efficiency and cost effectiveness.
Use information, communication and technology systems in carrying out the responsibilities of the post. - Leadership:
Provide effective leadership and management that:
Promotes the values and aims of the organisation across all services and projects.
Ensures that every individual person we support receives high quality support in a way that meets their needs, wishes and achieves outcomes specific to them / their family.
Establish and maintain clear performance management standards and effective review systems to manage the operations team which include:
- Setting and monitoring clear performance objectives.
- Defining / adjusting role boundaries, workflow process and job design against service delivery requirements.
- Determining staffing and resource requirements. - Governance:
Ensure that policies and practices are in place which reflect organisational, regulatory and legislative requirements and that these are regularly reviewed and implemented consistently to evidence compliance and best practice to ensure the protection and support of staff and the people we support.
Deputise for the CEO in their absence. - Quality:
Ensure that appropriate systems and structures are in place to support the active involvement and participation of the people we support in all aspects of the organisation's work.
Lead on the development and promotion of a business improvement culture ensuring that standards relating to contractual compliance, legislation, regulation, policy and best practice are maintained to evidence the delivery of the highest quality services.
Contribute to research and evaluation activities to ensure that the organisation achieves the highest quality in its service delivery and that it meets its objectives as a learning organisation.
Be accountable for the delivery of high-quality services to include the regular monitoring and review of service delivery and the identification of areas for improvement within a robust Quality Framework.
Ensure that risk management processes are embedded and are fully operational in line with the Risk Management Framework. - Organisation Development & Change Management:
Be an agent for change and champion change within your department.
Promote the development of an organisational culture that reinforces a person-centred ethos which enriches the lives of the people we support, staff and volunteers.
Develop external relationships with key individuals, organisations and strategic partners locally, regionally and nationally which secures and builds on our service offer internally and shapes and improves services for people with an intellectual disability or autistic spectrum condition, more widely. - Corporate Management:
Provide the CEO with regular, timely reports including reporting on progress against agreed objectives and issues / potential concerns to the organisation, its people and reputation.
Collaborate and actively contribute to the business of the Senior Leadership Team, assuming individual and corporate accountability particularly in matters relating to our operational services.
Provide Senior Managers and the Board of Directors with regular, timely reports in line with the requirements of organisational policies and procedures. - Organisational Commitment:
NB: All SHS staff are expected to have regular contact with the people we support. This means that we are available to them so that their views and aspirations are heard and are kept to the forefront of our work. As with all roles within the Operations Team, this role will require an onsite presence within services and projects to fulfil its leadership functions.
There may be occasions when the job holder is required to fulfil some duties outside of normal working hours and flexibility is therefore essential.
This job profile is not restrictive, and the job holder may be required to undertake any other duties and responsibilities as may be directed by their Line Manager. All the above duties must be carried out in line with the guidance, policies and procedures of the organisation.

Requirements:
Applicants must have:
- Education/Training Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor's degree or Master's Degree in relevant discipline.
Professional or relevant management qualification in Health & Social Care/ allied Health.
Minimum of 5 years' management experience in a social care organisation, at a senior manager level. This must include people and resource management.
Ability to travel independently. SHS defines this as having a full driving licence and access to a car insured for business purposes (this criteria is waived for candidates unable to meet it due to disability). - Desirable:
Experience of working with people with an intellectual disability and/or complex needs. - Skills & Competencies:

Commit to working and engaging constructively with stakeholders and to understanding their needs.
Provide leadership, communicating a compelling vision, embodying the values of SHS and facilitating team effectiveness.
Commit to SHS' Mission and Values and use Organisational systems, Policies and Procedures appropriately.
Competent in the use of IT systems.
Salary Scale: Successful candidates will be paid Grade VIII as per of the HSE consolidated pay scales. (March 2025)
