Job Description

AtkinsRéalis, one of the world's leading providers of engineering, professional consulting, and support services with offices across Ireland, is looking for an Electrical Engineer / Onshore Substation Engineer with relevant experience. The position is available immediately in the Dublin, Cork, Galway, and Dundalk offices.

Responsibilities:
  1. Design and review of primary plant layout, cable arrangements, earthing, lightning, compound and indoor lighting, instrument transformer sizing, protection schemes, and IED selection.
  2. C&P panel design, AIS busbar and connector detailed design and review for HV substations.
  3. Provide engineering design input to major electrical power infrastructure projects through all lifecycle stages, from feasibility to detailed design, site construction monitoring, and commissioning.
  4. Coordinate with client project teams and internal disciplines including civil, structural, environmental, survey/geotechnical, transport, protection, control, and CAD/BIM teams.
  5. Review drawings, specifications, and schedules to ensure compliance with standards and industry guides.
  6. Perform HV plant design calculations, including instrument transformer suitability, battery and charger sizing, surge arrester selection, busbar forces, HV cable design, earthing studies, insulation, and protective relay coordination.
  7. Understand major HV plant equipment such as AIS and GIS platforms, circuit breakers, transformers, disconnectors, earthing switches, control and protection panels, metalclad switchgears, and protective devices.
  8. Prepare and monitor technical submittals for client approval.
  9. Review and attend construction and commissioning stages of projects.
Key Requirements:
  • Experience in the power transmission and distribution industry.
  • Degree qualification, ideally progressing towards Chartered Engineer status.
  • Experience across all project lifecycle stages.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and client-specific health and safety requirements for HV plant systems.
  • Proficiency in technical report writing in English.
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Services Engineering, or Building Services Engineering (Level 7 or 8).
  • Proficiency in engineering software such as Dialux, Relux, Amtech, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office.
