Overview

Camphill Communities of Ireland (CCoI) are recruiting for a Social Care Worker. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is looking for a new challenge. The position requires a high degree of understanding and commitment to the residents and to Camphill Communities of Ireland, with the welfare and wellbeing of residents as the prime consideration. Confidentiality with regard to residents and staff is essential. The Social Care Worker must have the ability to work with people with an intellectual disability and support their right to live and participate in the community.

The role involves working in co-operation with the Shift Lead and the Person In Charge to direct the growth and direction of the residents, within the ethos of CCoI. The successful candidate should be highly responsible and reliable, competent in household management, and capable of creating and maintaining a homely and supportive environment. Flexibility, teamwork, and leadership in service provision are important, as is modelling professional attitude and conduct.

The Social Care Worker shall be responsible for the following:

Responsibilities
  • Advocacy & Rights: Respect each person as an equal citizen; uphold rights; facilitate choice, decision-making, self-advocacy, and community participation; support personal hobbies and autonomy; foster self-help and social skills.
  • Person Centred Support for Living: Ensure a person-centred approach to service delivery; support individuals with person-centred plans and various aspects of service responses (occupation, communication, behaviour support, independent living skills, social integration, personal care, development).
  • Act as a Key Worker for specific individuals; lead in developing and implementing person-centred plans; coordinate medical appointments; promote healthy, nutritious diets; develop training, leisure, social, and personal activities; support community integration; implement and adhere to behaviour support plans.
  • Facilitate and encourage participation in recreational and leisure activities; liaise with relevant workshops to manage house-to-work transitions; contribute to social and recreational activities and coordinate transport needs where required.
  • Budget and money handling: help manage petty cash and personal monies according to policies; assist in budgets; maintain house accounts and financial records.
  • Safety, hygiene, and daily living support: ensure personal hygiene standards; assist with moving and handling, fire safety, cleaning, laundry, infection control, mobility, and communication needs; provide personal care and health promotion; support meals preparation and cooking where required.
  • Medication administration and health supports: administer prescribed medications and maintain records per policy; ensure wellbeing of residents and help maintain home standards.
  • Household and team coordination: support day-to-day running of the household; ensure appropriate staffing cover; induct and train staff and volunteers; maintain policies and codes of practice; coordinate transport services; monitor attendance of students if applicable.
Requirements / Qualifications
  • Hold a minimum of Level 7 on the QQI Framework – BA in Social Care Studies or equivalent qualification in Health or Social Care.
  • CORU registration or provide proof that the application is in progress.
  • At least 1 year of experience with vulnerable adults or adults with intellectual disabilities.
  • Understanding of current national and sectoral policy and developments in Social Care within disability services.
  • Ability to follow, evaluate, and contribute to plans and methods to meet ongoing needs; strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient IT skills (Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams).
  • Full driving licence and access to own car is essential.
