POSITION TITLE: Research & Development Engineer

- SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Research & Development Engineer works under day-to-day instruction and collaborates with the Senior Staff Research Engineer. Responsibilities include performing simulations and producing technical writings (application notes & conference papers). They design and test the performance of electronic components and systems to identify potential issues and implement timely adjustments.
II. DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES (End Results Expected):
- Design custom magnetics (inductors, transformers, EMI chokes)
- Prepare Engineering Specifications
- Collaborate with engineering teams on customer-specific design projects; summarize calculations and simulations in PowerPoint presentations and present via Microsoft Teams
- Work with design engineers in other manufacturing locations to release new products
- Contribute to the development of product specifications and requirements
- Publish technical papers in journals, magazines and on the Bourns Website

- Engineering, Marketing and Laboratory Technicians in Bourns Electronics Ireland
- Sales Force and FAE's Europe
- PLM and GM
- Production sites in Europe and Asia

III. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS
Must possess the ability to effectively communicate, present and recommend ideas and solutions. Success comes from developing strong relationships with the engineering group both internally and with customers.
IV. COMMUNICATIONS
Oral: Excellent English required to communicate instructions and present ideas, concepts and solutions to all levels of employees and customers. Any other language is an asset.
Written: Excellent written skills in English to issue instructions and present ideas, concepts, and solutions to all levels of employees and customers via letters, memos, graphs, charts, etc.

VI. BASIC JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education:
A master's degree or PhD in DC-DC converters is preferred.
Experience:
- Demonstrable experience in power electronics (industry or academia)
- Proficient in electronic design software such as Altium or similar
- Experience with ANSYS Maxwell
- Strong knowledge of electronic components and systems
- Familiarity with standard electronic lab equipment
