Senior Occupational Therapist

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Occupational Therapist to join the multidisciplinary rehabilitation team in an acute setting in County Tipperary. This role involves providing specialist occupational therapy input to a 20-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit, primarily supporting older adults recovering from illness, injury, or surgery.

The successful candidate will work as part of a collaborative, person-centred team that includes physiotherapists, nurses, medical staff, social workers, dietitians, and healthcare assistants. The focus of the service is to maximise each patient's independence and support their safe discharge back to the community or appropriate care settings.

Key Responsibilities of the Senior Occupational Therapist:

  • Deliver comprehensive occupational therapy assessment, treatment planning, and intervention to patients with a variety of complex physical and cognitive needs.
  • Promote independence in activities of daily living, functional mobility, and community reintegration.
  • Contribute to discharge planning and liaise with community-based services and family members to ensure continuity of care.
  • Supervise and support junior staff and students as required.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to deliver coordinated, high-quality care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in line with professional and service standards.

Essential Criteria for the Senior Occupational Therapy:

  • A recognised qualification in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current CORU registration as an Occupational Therapist.
  • A minimum of three years' post-qualification clinical experience, including experience in rehabilitation, gerontology, or a related area.
  • Strong clinical reasoning, assessment, and intervention planning skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamworking abilities.
  • Commitment to delivering person-centred, goal-directed care.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience in an inpatient rehabilitation or post-acute setting.
  • Familiarity with functional and cognitive assessments commonly used in older adult populations.
  • Knowledge of discharge planning processes and community services.
