Position: Packaging Engineer
Location: West Galway
Duration: 6 Month
Rate: €50 - €65 per hr
Reporting to the Site Snr. Director of Engineering.
Skills:

Responsibilities:
- Packaging Output: Drive OA (Operator Availability) & OEE improvement across the manual & automatic packaging & visual inspection lines.
- Visual Inspections: Deliver process improvements across VI (Visual inspection equipment, both manual, Semi-Auto & Auto lines)
- Equipment Knowledge: Very familiar with typical packaging equipment such as cartoners, Labellers, track & trace serialisation solutions, vision inspection, and highly automated assembly machines across Vial, Syringe & Cartridge platforms.
- Organise and lead meetings: with equipment suppliers & operations to optimize efficiency. Prepare process documentation, operating instructions, and specifications
- Collaboration and Communication: Lead Cross-functional Teams: Working closely with various internal teams, including tech services, manufacturing, supply chain, regulatory, and quality assurance.
- Compliance: Ensure all work is carried out as per the quality system. Manage IRs and associated CAPAs within the packaging department.
- Stakeholder Support: Support packaging issues investigation or troubleshooting, identifying root cause and corrective actions, making changes as needed (Change control, training, specification update, equipment changes).
- Lead Packaging Equipment Development work: By modifying & improving the current state to the future state.
- Equipment Reliability: Strong focus on equipment reliability for ensuring that all machinery on the packaging & visual inspection lines operate at peak performance with minimal downtime. This involves implementing preventative and predictive maintenance strategies, conducting root cause analyses for equipment failures, and identifying and executing improvements to enhance overall equipment effectiveness (OEE). Work closely with maintenance teams to optimize spare parts management & troubleshoot complex issue.
- Capital Projects: Lead capital projects related to equipment upgrades or new installations, all with the overarching goal of maximizing the lifespan and efficiency of critical packaging assets
- Operational Excellence: Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., using methodologies like Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, SMED, FMEA) to enhance production efficiency, reduce waste, and optimize overall equipment effectiveness (OEE). Working very closely with the operational excellence site team.
Requirements:
- University bachelor's degree in science or engineering, for example, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Packaging, or related field, preferred.
- Relevant experience and knowledge of Quality Systems & Tools (problem solving, Pareto analysis) and Packaging Technology & development.
- Technical knowledge and skills in project management, packaging development, approval, and quality control of packaging for food products is required.
- Competent in IT applications, for example, Power BI, SAP, Office, etc..
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Able to work to deadlines.
- Previous experience of working with equipment vendors such as Optel, Brevetti, Marchesini, Mettler Toledo, Newman, ACG, Zebra, Thermo Scientific, Mikron, Harro Hofliger a plus.
