Here at Hays, we have a fantastic opportunity with our global biopharmaceutical client for an Utilities Engineer on an initial 12-month contract basis. The Utilities Engineer will be responsible for the following:

Job Function:

The Site Utility Engineering SMEs will serve as the Utility System Owners for Black and Clean Utilities. They will provide engineering support for specific plant utility infrastructure, systems, and equipment across the entire site.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure all systems comply with Regulatory requirements including Quality (cGDP/GMPs), EHS, Global Engineering, design & construction directives, and local regulations.
  • Develop user requirements for new equipment and modifications, from concept to installation, in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Maintain and update CMMS data, calibration sheets, spare parts lists, PMs, PdMs, and job plans to optimize maintenance efficiency and reliability.
  • Perform root-cause failure analyses for critical failures.
  • Minimize unscheduled downtime through preventive and predictive maintenance, and rapid response to failures.
  • Review and act on maintenance reports from vendors and contractors using CMMS, and develop action plans.
  • Support compliance activities such as risk assessments, RCA investigations, and CAPA implementation to prevent recurrence of issues.
  • Manage change controls related to systems and equipment.
  • Support audits as the System SME.
  • Establish performance metrics for costs, efficiency, and uptime of equipment and systems.
  • Develop budgets for operations, improvements, and projects related to utility equipment.
  • Manage capital projects and modifications for assigned systems.
  • Promote continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead and work effectively within a team environment.
  • Provide solutions aligned with business objectives and cost considerations.
  • Possess detailed knowledge of operating and designing utility equipment and systems.
  • Have extensive experience in the pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical industry, with regulatory knowledge.
  • Experience with regulatory agencies is preferred.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
  • A Level 8 BEng qualification in an engineering discipline.
  • At least 8 years of experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities in maintenance engineering or utilities roles.
  • Proven ability to lead, collaborate, and deliver solutions considering business and cost impacts.
