OverviewPurpose of the Role and key responsibilities relate to leadership and delivery of physiotherapy services within paediatric orthopaedics/MSK, with an emphasis on evidence-based practice, service development, teaching, and collaboration across the MSK team and across CHI locations.
Responsibilities- Live CHI values and be child-centered, compassionate & progressive; act with respect, excellence and integrity.
- Lead Physiotherapy hip pathways (complex and non-complex) across the lifespan, including DDH.
- Collaborate in management of other paediatric orthopaedic congenital conditions as required.
- Assess and treat patients referred for physiotherapy with advanced clinical reasoning and knowledge.
- Demonstrate evidence-based practice through clinical reasoning and decision making in complex cases.
- Participate in the wider Musculoskeletal/Orthopaedic Service; develop care pathways in collaboration with other MSK Clinical Specialists.
- Represent the MSK team within the Physiotherapy Department in collaboration with MSK service leads.
- Manage clinical caseload and MSK Orthopaedics waiting lists in line with targets.
- Provide clinical support, teaching and training to promote effective MSK orthopaedic physiotherapy interventions, including weekend inpatient MSK services.
- Undertake clinical supervision and contribute to competency evaluation of senior and staff grade physiotherapists.
- Engage in performance appraisal and Personal Development Planning with the Physiotherapy Manager; seek clinical supervision as appropriate.
- Supervise and educate physiotherapy assistants, students and other staff as required.
- Develop, manage and evaluate the musculoskeletal service; participate in research and audits.
- Advise on changes in work practices to align with best practice in MSK orthopaedic physiotherapy.
- Participate in mentoring and development for senior and staff grade physiotherapists; support planning and service evaluation.
- Lead cross-site planning and development of integrated MSK services across CHI locations.
- Engage with national initiatives and act as a tertiary hospital Paediatric Clinical Specialist lead for colleagues nationally.
- Deliver physiotherapy treatment in accordance with CORU Code and maintain required professional development.
- Participate in mandatory training and share specialised knowledge with colleagues.
- Ensure a safe working environment and comply with hospital policies.
- Participate in the hospital out-of-hours physiotherapy service and undertake duties as assigned by management.
- Hold current CORU registration (physiotherapy) and state CORU registration number on application.
- Five years full-time post-qualification clinical experience, with at least three years in Paediatric Musculoskeletal / Orthopaedic Physiotherapy.
- Demonstrate evidence of recent formal Continuing Professional Development relevant to paediatric MSK/orthopaedics (post-graduate qualifications or relevant courses).
