About the team: Join a collaborative team of data science and insurance experts supporting innovation across the UKI, EU, and international markets. Our work helps customers make informed decisions in pricing, underwriting, and fraud detection.

About the role: As a Principal Data Scientist, you will serve as a senior technical leader, flexing across high-impact projects and driving innovation in analytics, infrastructure, and product development. You will play a strategic role in shaping our cloud migration, building scalable ML workflows, and collaborating across disciplines to deliver data-driven solutions that support our business goals.

You will bring a blend of data science expertise, predictive modelling, and cloud infrastructure knowledge, and hopefully have a decent grasp of insurance practices, especially in pricing, underwriting and fraud. Exceptional communication and collaboration skills are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to high-impact projects across analytics, infrastructure, and product development.
  • Explore and adapt AI solutions to enhance business outcomes.
  • Build and deploy scalable machine learning workflows and data products.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support cloud migration and infrastructure design.
  • Work with structured and unstructured data, including telematics, to generate insights and improve products.
  • Develop predictive models and support benchmarking initiatives.
  • Communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Mentor colleagues and promote a culture of learning and inclusion.

Requirements
  • Experience in data science, analytics, or a related field (academic or professional).
  • Proficiency in Python or R, SQL, and data processing tools.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (especially Azure), distributed computing (e.g. Spark), and MLOps practices.
  • Ability to design and maintain data pipelines and work with diverse data formats.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • A commitment to inclusive, ethical, and explainable AI practices.

Preferred Experience
  • Experience with insurance data or modelling.
  • Knowledge of telematics or connected vehicle data.
  • Familiarity with tools like Databricks, Power BI, or R Shiny.
