Overview

Healthcare Assistant - Theatre, UPMC Sports Surgery Clinic, Dublin. Location: UPMC Sports Surgery Clinic, Santry, Dublin 9. Job type: Full-time Contract of Employment.

Responsibilities
  • Support and assist Staff Nurses in the delivery of patient care in a safe manner within the competencies of the Health Care Assistant role in the Theatre Department.
  • Present for duty in a professional manner, punctually and dressed according to policy.
  • Assist with patient mobility and positioning as directed by trained practitioners; help with moving patients between theatre tables, beds and trolleys using appropriate aids.
  • Assist Consultants in theatre procedures as required (e.g., leg holder) and support theatre staff during patient care activities.
  • Maintain communication with ward teams and theatre staff via telephone, electronic or verbal channels; attend departmental meetings and mandatory training (CPR, Manual Handling, Fire Training, etc.).
  • Ensure segregation of clinical and non-clinical waste according to policy; support training of new staff during orientation.
  • Assist with preparation and setup of theatre lists, sterile fields, and equipment (diathermy, suction, tourniquet, camera, lighting, etc.) under supervision; maintain sterile technique.
  • Stock checks and replenishment; transport patients within the theatre and day ward as required; assist with cleaning and preparation of bed bays and ward areas.
  • Report equipment failures, health and safety issues, manual handling and infection control concerns to the Theatre Manager/CNM.
  • Support safe environmental standards to safeguard patients, staff and visitors.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Fetac Level 5 qualification or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience in a hospital setting is desirable; prior theatre department experience is desirable.
  • Ability to work on own initiative, prioritize multiple tasks, and demonstrate attention to detail.
  • Ability to undertake physical demands of the role; motivated to identify issues and formulate solutions.
  • Be medically fit to perform duties as required.
