General Insurance is a leading provider of insurance products and services for commercial and personal insurance customers. It includes one of the world's most far-reaching property casualty networks. General Insurance offers a broad range of products to customers through a diversified, multichannel distribution network. This position is part of the Client Service/UW support team within Operations & Service function and may report to a Senior Specialist, UW Support, Team Leader, or to a Team Manager.

About the role

The Senior Underwriting Assistant is an individual contributor within the Underwriting Support Unit and is expected to actively develop their knowledge and understanding of the fundamental skills and functions of the underwriting support process, underwriting process, risk analysis, and operational drivers.

What you need to know:

  1. This role handles multiple accounts and provides technical guidance to the other junior support staff. This includes being the primary point of contact for queries arising from Broker calls and emails.
  2. Partner with underwriters and/or more senior UW Support employees in the end-to-end processing of new, and renewal business.
  3. Identify means to continuously improve the service delivery performance with our COE partners and Brokers. Seeking opportunities to adopt new technology to maximise productivity.
  4. Oversee quality control processes and where Data quality or performance issues are identified, conduct root cause reviews and proactively suggest solutions/additional controls to eliminate issues.
  5. Build and maintain a strong relationship with all departments a service is provided to, specifically Underwriting, Finance, Actuarial and Claims.
  6. Trains on and demonstrates proficiency in utilizing underwriting systems.
  7. Provide support in respect of new projects and initiatives, as and when needed.
  8. Any other ad-hoc tasks, as necessary.
  9. Understand all appropriate lines of escalation and responsibilities across Risk, Product and Underwriting.

What we're looking for:

  1. Multiple years of related insurance experience and/or training; or equivalent, a relevant combination of education and experience.
  2. Ability to navigate and switch between multiple proprietary, vendor, web-based, and standard computer systems.
  3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office in Excel, Word and PowerBI.
  4. Willingness to learn from experiences and new situations.
  5. Ability to anticipate client (internal and external) needs and act proactively.
  6. Identify problems and solutions matched to the appropriate solutions.
  7. Demonstrate attention to detail to ensure accurate documentation is maintained.
