Overview

We are seeking a Senior Hydrogeologist to join Arup's Ground Engineering Team in Ireland. Arup is an employee-owned, global firm delivering innovative projects in the built environment. We offer flexible arrangements to support diversity and wellbeing, with hybrid options available.

Arup has operated in Ireland since 1946 with offices in Dublin, Cork, Galway and Limerick. This role provides hydrogeology input to a portfolio of exciting, varied, and multi-disciplinary projects, including groundwater resources, groundwater engineering and environmental impact assessments in Ireland and internationally.

Responsibilities
  • Groundwater resource development and investigations, including aquifer resource studies, groundwater supply well design, drilling and pumping test supervision.
  • Design and supervision of hydrogeological ground investigations, including monitoring borehole installations, permeability testing, soil/water quality monitoring, and data logger installations.
  • Conceptualisation of hydrogeological environments, including data analysis, visualisation, and client presentations.
  • Lead hydrogeology components of Environmental Impact Assessments for major infrastructure projects within multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Groundwater quality studies, including catchment-based nutrient assessments and site-specific contaminant impact assessments.
  • Project management of hydrogeology projects within larger project teams, responsible for deliverables.
  • Involvement with international projects and collaboration with other Arup offices, including community engagement and groundwater supply initiatives in developing countries.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Degree qualified in Geology, Geography, Earth Science, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering with MSc in Hydrogeology or equivalent (higher degree in Hydrogeology preferred; relevant hydrogeology experience considered).
  • Six-plus years of postgraduate experience in hydrogeology; suitable for a range of experience levels.
  • Excellent report writing skills and proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and GIS tools (e.g., ArcView or similar).
  • Professional accreditation (PGeo) with the Institute of Geologists of Ireland, or equivalent is an advantage; candidates not yet accredited should be working towards it.
  • Strong field experience, ability to liaise with and supervise site investigation contractors, and excellent planning, organisational and time management skills.
  • Willingness to develop commercial awareness and client-facing skills in addition to technical design capabilities.
  • Highly motivated with the ability to take on new challenges and work within a supportive, collaborative environment.
