Inis Environmental Consultants are seeking to recruit a full-time Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) to work within our Ecology team. Locations available: Ennis (County Clare), Cork, and Dublin. The company provides ecological assessments and surveys across terrestrial, marine, and freshwater environments.

Inis is a wholly owned subsidiary of the RSK Group of companies. Joining our team provides the opportunity to work with multi-disciplinary teams across Ireland.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advise on protecting valued biodiversity features on construction sites.
  • Provide practical, site-specific, and proportionate guidance to help clients achieve compliance with environmental legislation.
  • Review relevant documents, including AA/NIS, EcIA, CEMP, and species and habitat management plans.
  • Consult with local planning authorities, local Biodiversity Officers, National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), and Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI).
  • Pre-construction and construction phase checks for protected species.
  • Provide an ecological watching brief during vegetation clearance, building renovation or demolition, habitat translocation, creation, enhancement, and management work.
  • Daily record keeping, signing off construction documents, and producing reports for auditing purposes.
Person Specification

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about managing ecological or environmental risks on construction projects, advising and supporting clients and contractors on environmental regulations and planning conditions to ensure smooth and cost-efficient project delivery.

Essential:

  • A third-level qualification in environmental science, zoology, ecology, or a similar discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience on a broad range of ecological projects, ideally including practical conservation advice or management.
  • Awareness and understanding of Irish and EU environmental protection and wildlife legislation and planning guidelines.
  • Excellent communication skills (face-to-face with clients and contractors, plus verbal and written communication).
  • Full driving licence and willingness to travel to sites.

Desirable:

  • Proven experience as an ECoW or in a similar field-based ecological role.
  • Knowledge of construction management, civil engineering, and project management.
  • Membership of CIEEM or AEnvCoW, or ability to attain membership within three months of appointment.
  • Excellent IT skills.
