Senior Project Planner

About the Team:

Our Planning work profile is currently focused on large multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects, commercial and mixed-use developments, in addition to large scale residential developments. The range of projects that we engage in is vast and includes maritime area developments, renewable energy projects, transport projects in addition to regular planning matters. We also provide professional planning consultancy services to Statutory Bodies and Local Authorities. Our team comprises highly experienced Planning Consultants and with that comes excellent mentoring and career progression opportunities.

About The Role:

Under the direction of a Director of Planning a Senior Project Planner is expected to provide professional and technical assistance on a diverse range of town planning projects and will be expected to meet and liaise with clients to ensure successful project delivery. The role offers opportunities to work as part of a team on prestigious and large-scale infrastructure projects. The role will be of interest to professional Planners who like working with in-house specialists, those who enjoy a wide variety of project types and those who get fulfilment from quality training.

Qualifications:


• BSc or MSc in Regional / Urban / City / Town and Country Planning

Essential Requirements:
  1. Professionally qualified or chartered (Member of IPI and/or RTPI).
  2. Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in town planning (after attaining the qualification).
  3. Technically proficient with excellent working knowledge of planning legislation and planning policy matters.
  4. Willingness to learn and manage projects.
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Support Planning Directors and more junior colleagues on a range of projects, using initiative in doing so.
  2. Collate, analyse and interpret a range of socio-economic, demographic, policy and related material.
  3. Write reports summarising analysis, findings and providing clear reasoned advice.
  4. Regularly be required to solve problems and develop innovative solutions.
  5. Attend meetings with clients / planning authorities and other stakeholders as a representative of RPS and to liaise directly with other professionals pursuant to effective management and conduct of projects.
  6. Support business development initiatives.
  7. Ensure compliance with RPS Quality Assurance procedures.
  8. Coordinate and manage projects including:
    1. Preparing and submitting planning applications,
    2. Preparing planning appeals,
    3. Site appraisals,
    4. Planning policy reviews,
    5. Analysis and research related to Local Plan or policy preparation,
    6. Co-ordination of environmental assessments.
  9. Lead in knowledge sharing events and team building activities.
About You:
  1. Experience of liaising with clients and providing advice on planning matters.
  2. Excellent working knowledge of planning, development and environmental issues.
  3. Ability to conduct independent research and analyse and interpret results; ability to prepare reports and formulate recommendations; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  4. Demonstrate the enthusiasm and initiative to be a well-rounded planning consultant.
