Cluain Mhuire is a national center of innovation in public mental health service provision delivering a community based adult mental health service for the South East Coast of Co. Dublin to a catchment area of some 182,000 people approximately. In addition to general adult mental health services, Cluain Mhuire provides early intervention in psychosis, ADHD, gender and general hospital mental health services.

Senior Psychologist with the ADAPT ADULT ADHD Service

Role Summary

Following the launch of the National Model of Care for ADHD in Adults National Clinical Programme, Health Services (HSE, 2021), Cluain Mhuire has been funded to provide specialist assessment and treatment for Adults with ADHD throughout CHO 6. This is a new and exciting development.

This post would suit an experienced Senior Psychologist who has extensive experience in adult mental health and who would now relish the challenge of being part of a new Team tasked with setting up an innovative service for adults with ADHD. Prior experience in new service development would be an advantage. This post is part of the National Clinical Programme for ADHD in Adults service, for Dublin South East and Wicklow Mental Health Services. The Senior Psychologist will provide a safe, quality service reflective of professional standards and ethics, ensuring at all times that practice is within the scope of Mental Health Senior Psychology Post. They will engage in considered, client centered assessment to determine the needs of people attending the ADHD Clinic and ensure these define individual and group intervention plans. They will work as part of a dynamic Multidisciplinary ADHD Team with supervision and support from the Principal Psychologist. They will join a vibrant Psychology Department and will have opportunities to progress their professional and clinical skills.

Minimum Requirements

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the above and the successful candidates must:

  • Have a recognized university degree or diploma (QQ1 level 8 equivalent) obtained with 1st or 2nd class honours in which Psychology was taken as a major subject and honours obtained in that subject
  • Have a recognized post-graduate professional qualification in clinical, counselling or educational psychology or an equivalent qualification validated by the Department of Health.
  • Have at least five years satisfactory post-graduate experience in the area of professional psychology, no more than three years of which were spent in gaining the post-graduate professional qualification. Years in excess of the permitted three years for completion of the post-graduate training or time not worked will not be taken into consideration when assessing the five years' experience requirement.
  • Have post-qualification experience of working in an Adult Mental Health Service for 1 year carrying out assessments and psychological therapy.
  • Have knowledge and understanding of the complex needs of this client group.
  • Understand mental health as it relates to Adult ADHD.
  • Be familiar with comorbid mental health conditions associated with this client group such as other neurodevelopmental disorders, mood and anxiety disorders, emotional dysregulation difficulties and drug and alcohol abuse.
  • Have experience of group work.
  • Have experience of working within an MDT.
  • Have knowledge and experience in counselling and advocacy as it relates to the role.
  • Have a clean driver's license and have access to transport to fulfil the requirements of the role.
  • Have knowledge of the service provided at Cluain Mhuire.
  • Previous experience of working in a CAMH service is desirable.

The Dublin South East and Wicklow Adult ADHD Service is a public service and as such staff on the team are not permitted to see patients who are attending the service or on a waiting list for the service in private practice. This is to ensure that there is no conflict of interest between their public and private work.

Remuneration

Salary Grade 367Y Psychologist, Senior Clinical on the Consolidated HSE Pay Scale

€97,528 - €114,638 per annum pro rata

Initial location

The initial location of this role is the Primary Care Centre in Dun Laoghaire Shopping Centre. However, you may be required, from time to time, to work at SJOG CS's other places of business or/and the premises of such associated s companies or organisations as SJOG CS may require. You will be given as much notice of any such change of place of work as is reasonably practicable.
