Society Financial Control Lead
Salary up to £61,000 dependent on experience
Are you a qualified accountant with a passion for statutory reporting, financial control and continuous improvement?
We're looking for a dynamic individual to lead key reporting processes, champion optimisation and drive best practice across our Finance function. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real impact in a collaborative, values driven organisation where your expertise will help shape financial outcomes and deliver fair value for our customers.
Who Are We?
Not just another building society. Not just another job.
We're the fourth biggest building society in the UK and what makes us a bit different is that we're a mutual organisation. We don't have shareholders; we're owned by our members.
Our colleagues say Skipton's a great place to work, and you could be one of them, bringing with you new ideas on how we can keep customers at the heart of what we do.
Whatever your background, and whatever your goals, we'll help you take the next step towards a better future.
This is an exciting time to get involved; we are currently re-shaping what our team looks like for the future, making sure we are adding the most value to the Society.
We are looking for an enthusiastic self-starter with a curious mind and the ability to motivate others to achieve complex and challenging goals.
What Will You Be Doing?
As the Society Financial Control Lead, your role will be to support the Senior Lead in the delivery of financial reporting processes, engaging with stakeholders across the wider finance function to produce segmental business performance and report through to the Board.
You will have the opportunity to:
- Support half-year and full-year statutory reporting processes, including the month-end close reporting process through liaison with key internal stakeholders.
- Deliver the ongoing development, documentation, implementation and maintenance of the financial control framework within the Society Financial Reporting and Control Team.
- Drive continuous improvement in processes and systems, focusing on data integrity, reporting accuracy and efficiency optimisation.
- Proactively champion Workday adoption across Finance and the wider business, demonstrating a standard of skills and behaviours to which the team can aspire.
- Enhance functional effectiveness by identifying best practices and integrating external insights.
- Apply sound judgement to identify issues, solve problems and make timely and informed decisions.
- Maintain industry knowledge and external networks to inform accounting interpretations and application, meaning that assurance provided is relevant and contextual.
- Accountable for ongoing development of technical expertise and regulatory awareness to ensure compliance with all relevant requirements, supporting the delivery of good customer outcomes and fair value through informed financial reporting and assurance.
- Work closely with internal and external audit teams to support assurance activities and ensure robust financial governance.
What Do We Need From You?
To be successful in this role you'll need to be or have:
- Fully qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA) with demonstrable post qualification experience.
- In-depth knowledge of statutory reporting, technical accounting and financial control, particularly IFRS9 requirements, acting as an SME.
- Experience of operating in a similar role. Financial Services experience would be beneficial but not essential.
- Proficient in finance systems. Workday experience would be advantageous.
- Skilled in engaging and influencing senior stakeholders across all levels of the organisation.
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to link operational activity to financial outcomes.
- Proven ability to mentor and coach teams, manage priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong communicator, able to explain complex accounting matters clearly and concisely.
- Adaptable and proactive, with a drive to support change and deliver excellent outcomes.
What's In It For You?
