Overview

Data Scientist II role at Microsoft. Security represents the most critical priorities for our customers in a world awash in digital threats, regulatory scrutiny, and estate complexity. The Microsoft Identity security team is on a mission to protect our customers from account compromise and fraud. Our data science team is at the core of this mission, creating and improving machine learning based detections that are used to find and block malicious actors from harming our systems and customers. You will dive through mountains of data to extract insights and create smart algorithms that can detect and stop attackers while maximizing user productivity and usability.

Responsibilities
  • Create and maintain machine learning based detections to detect compromise of Microsoft Identity users or services.
  • Analyze new data sources and research new patterns and techniques for automated detections.
  • Collaborate with software engineers and PMs to productize detections end-to-end.
  • Set up and track metrics to assess the quality of detections and adapt in real time.
  • Leverage data from different teams and services to build new detection algorithms.
  • Participate in incident resolution and investigations on identity attacks to help the team achieve its mission.
Qualifications
  • Required: Strong experience in solving problems through statistical modeling, applied ML, and data analysis.
  • Preferred: Proficient in data analytics languages (SQL, R or Python) and some programming experience (C#, C++, Java); strong communication skills with other data scientists and partners; MS/PhD in computer science, machine learning, statistics, or a quantitative domain; experience in identity systems, security, threat intelligence, fraud, or abuse.

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements, including Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
