The Department of Children, Disability and Equality's (DCDE) mission is to enhance the lives of children, young people, adults, families and communities, recognising diversity and promoting equality of opportunity. The Department deals with policy and service developments relating to a number of important groups in society.

The passing of the Child Care (Amendment) Act 2022 has enabled the Minister for Children, Disability and Equality to establish a new GAL national service as part of the Department. Guardians ad litem are independent qualified and experienced professionals appointed by the Court to safeguard the interests of children and young people in court proceedings.

The Guardian ad litem National Service is now seeking to appoint a Head of Legal Services Unit. Reporting to the Director of the Guardian ad litem National Service, the Head of Legal Services Unit will be a member of the senior management team and will be involved in the establishment/formation of the service.

Once up and running, they will develop an organisational culture of collaboration focused on putting the child at the centre of service provision. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated, committed and suitably qualified person with substantial relevant experience to fulfil a key role in this new service.
