Junior Engineer

Purpose:

The Junior Engineer is responsible for supporting project execution and engineering activities, focusing on process improvements, automation, aseptic processing, and new processing equipment, as well as facility/utilities modifications. This role assists in delivering projects on time, within scope, and on budget. Reporting to the Project Engineer or Senior Manager of Engineering, the Junior Engineer will work alongside senior engineers and cross-functional teams to achieve project goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Support:

  • Assist in the coordination and delivery of processing equipment (e.g., packaging, assembly, inspection equipment, autoclaves, RABS & isolator filling machines, LAF units, compounding skids, vessels).
  • Help develop and write User Requirement Specifications (URS) under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Support vendor selection and vendor evaluation processes.
  • Assist with project management tasks, including writing RCEs, placing orders, and preparing for design review meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards and guidelines (e.g., ASME BPE 2019, ISPE).
  • Support the installation, service hook-up, and commissioning of processing equipment, collaborating with engineering teams and equipment vendors.
  • Assist with Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) processes.
  • Contribute to equipment documentation management and support during equipment qualification.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to ensure timely and successful project completion.

Product & Process Improvement:

  • Participate in technical problem-solving forums related to product manufacturing and aseptic filling.
  • Support process improvement and cost reduction initiatives as part of the engineering team.

Meetings & Reporting:

  • Attend and take notes in weekly/bi-weekly project review meetings with senior team members.
  • Participate in regular project updates and communication with the engineering team.

Key Requirements:

Education & Experience:

  • Third-level qualification in Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • 0-2 years of experience in the biologics, pharmaceuticals, or medical device industry (or internship).
  • Some exposure to project management activities is a plus, with a solid technical foundation.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration within cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work in a team and take direction from senior engineers to meet project goals.

Other Requirements:

  • Occasional travel may be required for design reviews, build inspections, and Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), up to 2 times per year based on business needs.
  • The role is based on site in Westport.
